Pre-Trip A 21st and a first timer! Pre trip report!

Hi guys, I have been on this site for a while but usually I am just a lurker and don't post much! I thought I would try a trip report for this Disney visit, try being the key word. So for those of you who don't know me (most of you) my name is Laura, I'm 20 and live in the UK. This will be my 5th visit to Disney World but have always been with my parents, this trip is just with my boyfriend! We booked this pretty much after I came back last May for the exact same dates this year!
My boyfriend (Reece) has always wanted to go Disney since he was a child, however it never appealed to his family so never got to go. He was amazed when he met me and after I got back from my last visit he was adamant we had to book a trip asap.

Dates: May 8th till 22 May 2018 (67 days left!!)

Travelling from Manchester 10am flight to Orlando with Virgin Atlantic. No need to mention the flight home just yet, that's irrelevant :angelic:.

Who: As I already covered me (chief planner) I also just quit my crappy job to start my own business in Eyelash extensions. I was truly miserable and have a fair amount going on in my personal life, I care a lot for my Nana who has dementia and I also suffer with Lymes Disease (bitten in Kent 2 years ago, didn't take treatment as made me sick and now I'm paying the price, listen to the doctors kids.) Unfortunately my job was making dealing with these conditions ten times worse, I worked for a government department however our contract ended and we all got moved onto a new one that essentially involved cold calling small businesses. I couldn't do it and couldn't handle the micro managing such as writing on a board how long each employee has been toilet and so on and so forth. After 3 weeks off with pleurisy I went back for a week and I was crying every morning at the thought of going back, they didn't care about any employees I couldn't even take a minute to take my medication without getting a warning. With the support from my family and boyfriend I walked out and never looked back. I start my eyelash course this month and have a few potential clients so I'm truly hoping the future is much brighter :) I also just started treatment again for Lymes after months of doctors appointments so things really are looking up.

Reece is 21 and an engineer, we don't live together but only 10 minutes away from each other. Planning this trip has been difficult as he doesn't have a clue as he's never been and doesn't understand much with the fastpasses and such, even though he does try to understand. Also he works nights so doesn't leave much time to plan!

This is probably the fanciest our photos get.

Yes that is a Jurassic Park T shirt and yes we do have matching ones and YES I do have every intention to wear them out together.

Where: We originally had AoA booked, I've dreamt a lot of the little mermaid rooms :inlove: but after the free QS dining plan deal came out for moderate resorts we upgraded to Caribbean Beach. We are fully aware of the construction, not something we are concerned about as we have no plans to even eat breakfast there. Just somewhere to sleep and the occasional dip in the pool. I've never actually stayed on property, always International Drive so this will be a first for me!

Why: Of course Reece had ants in his pants to get to Disney and he's been like a child ever since we booked, he's a massive star wars fan much to my dismay (don't judge me). He dragged me to go see Rogue something?? The new one anyway and I literally went the bathroom and just stood there for 10 minutes to pass some time. I hoenstly didn't think it was ever going to end.

It's also my 21st birthday over there! I have changed my plans so much for what I want to do for the day and have booked and cancelled way too many ADR's but I've decided now just sticking with Magic kingdom and a quick shoot over to Epcot for Via Napoli as I have some lovely meals booked for when I'm home with family and friends. I spent my 20th in Magic Kingdom and just being there is more special than anything else I could possibly do.

I can book Fastpass in 9 days and I pretty much have a good idea of what I'm booking. The majority of our days we are spending morning in one park, hotel for rest and another park in the evening/night. Reece really doesn't do that well in heat even though he's adamant he'll be fine I think the best option is to try and relax through the hottest hours in the day. I've found on past visits between 1-3pm I'm no good to anyone and just drag myself around and become really un productive.

I will post tomorrow some of our plans, we aren't sure yet if we are getting the universal 14 days or just the one day. Reece is still deciding whether worth hiring a car or not so I think that's mainly going to depend on what Universal ticket we buy. I've always had the 14 day and had 3/4 visits per trip so really couldn't Imagine trying it all in one day... We will have to see.

If anyone wants to add my social media that's where most of my holiday pics and updates will be if you want to follow along!

If you got this far...congratulations. Here was me worrying I would have nothing to say :joyfull:

Sounds like your plans are pretty laid back and fluid! I'm not a huge fan of Star Wars either, but grab a Darth Vader cupcake! From what I read, it's so good it can take the edge off of all the other Star Wars activities you'll be forced to endure!

Yeah every other time I’ve been we’ve done 9-5ish and just wasn’t helpful halfway through the day we’d all be moody! I do have some busy days planned but Reece has a bit of anxiety too so just gonna be best all round to try relax and not over do it! We have two weeks to enjoy it!

Hahaha I’ll have to try one! Although I am after one of them rose gold cupcakes!

I have people/crowd related anxiety as well and my limit was around four hours in the park before i NEEDED a break.

Yeah I thinking that’s going to be our limit without a break! I’m fine with it but I get cranky from the heat and tired haha!

I’m in!! You must have been there the exact same time as us last May! Fellow UK’er following along and green with envy 😉

Oh really! I’m always amazed watching videos on YouTube and seeing people on the park same time as me haha!

On our plane going we kept bumping into this couple and we later passed them in it’s a small world que and my dad shouted ‘YOU WERE ON OUR PLANE!’ Safe to say they looked freaked out and we spent the plane home avoiding them! :banghead:

Here is a really rough plan of what we are doing, nothing is set in stone. I am prone to plan EVERY minute of my life and have everything be perfect but I really am trying not to do that this trip. I'll end up disappointed and annoyed when things don't go the way I expected so I'm going in with a open mind but of course having some plan is somewhat essential.

I'm sure these two weeks seem really chilled and not much compared to most peoples trips but let me explain. I did touch briefly in the comments and my original post on this but I thought I would explain properly. So as I said Reece has always had anxiety, granted it's got a lot better and he knows how to control it better but I don't want him to be in a situation where he feels like that and could potentially ruin part of the trip. He agreed he would feel best having a break halfway through the day when temperatures are at their highest and crowd levels are high. I have no issue with this as I personally get way too grumpy mid day and tired but after a rest and lunch I'm back at it.

Another reason as I briefly mentioned in original post was I am dealing with Lyme Disease and makes most activities hard. As I'm two years into the disease and only just started treatment (the wrong treatment but that's another story) I've been feeling lousy for a really long time. Simple tasks like carrying my handbag or going shopping had proved near enough impossible for me. It got to the point my friend in work at the time (who was a boy) would be walking round with my Ted Baker bag as I couldn't carry it :hilarious:. Some nights I would be lying in bed and my legs wouldn't be strong enough to let me stand for 5 minutes to brush my teeth or going up the stairs made my heart feel like it was going to beat out my eyeballs.
Stress brings the symptoms on a lot worse so I spend a lot of time trying to stay as relaxed and care free as possible. They was one point in December we debated cancelling the trip altogether or trying to move it back a year, I couldn't face the thought of that and pushed through. I'm on months of antibiotics and multiple vitamins and herbs and slowly starting to get better. I don't know what place I'll be in at May but I know it won't be as bad as I was 2 months ago.

Anyway that's basically my reasoning behind taking it slow, so without further interruptions here are some plans!

Arrival day:

We fly out on a Tuesday but I think we are going to try and stay in Manchester airport the Monday night just to make things a little more convenient. If anyone knows the M6 you'd know how awful it can be for traffic and I just really like the idea of relaxing the night before!

We will arrive in Orlando Intl around 2:30pm if everything goes smoothly, as I said in original post we aren't sure if we are hiring a car just yet so I'm sure the magical express will be in use. After we get CBR and having a freshen up I think we're just going to head to walmart for some breakfast foods and snacks and then maybe head to Downtown Disney for dinner and some shopping. Pretty chilled arrival day, I want us to be well rested for our first big day!

Day 2: We are heading for a day in Magic Kingdom! Plan to arrive 08:30 08:45 to be in as soon as possible. We have reservations at 09:45 for Be Our Guest breakfast! Hoping to Fast Pass SDMT, Thunder, Splash and hopefully get a Space mountain but we will see. I originally thought to try and rope drop SM but I really don't want to spend our first morning there rushing around, especially when it's Reece's first ever visit. Take it slow and smell the delicious Main Street smells! I'm not sure how long we'll stay here for but I doubt we'll make it till fireworks, I really don't mind as we have plenty of other days.

Day 3: Epcots up for EMH from 8 so heading there! Just going to spend the morning exploring Future World and grab some lunch and get Reece to try the Beverly for entertainment purposes. Back to hotel for a swim and potential nap, and then over to Hollywood Studios! Now I know everyone has mixed thoughts on HS, I personally am not a huge fan. However my favourite ride is TOT so that ride alone is worth it for me! Hoping to see Fantasmic as well!

Day 4: Universal and IOA day, this might change depending on what ticket we get but for now its a Universal day!

Day 5:
AK for EMH! We have a dining reservation for Rainforest Cafe at 1:15pm and super excited as never ate here but looks incredible! Heading to MK in the night for HAE, I was in MK for the first day of this show and I did love it so much!

Day 6: Having a slight rest day and going to Typhoon Lagoon! Probably spend the evening in Downtown disney.

Will update rest of week soon!

Also does anyone know where about the location of the Rainforest cafe is? I thought I heard on a video once that it's slightly out of AK?

Sounds like a fun trip! There are 2 Rainforest Cafe locations: 1 is at Animal Kingdom and can be accessed from outside the park entrance, the other is at Disney Springs in the Marketplace area (down where the bus stops used to be).

Oh ok thanks, it’s the AK one so I need to go out the actual park to get to it?

Does anyone know chances of getting space mountain fast pass on the day? I chose SDMT as it’s harder to get but has anyone ever seen space mountain availability on the day?

Not an expert on that but there is always rope drop to ride it with a short standby wait

Max

Thank you, I did consider this but it’s our first day and have breakfast 09:45 so don’t really want to rush around. Not a big deal if we can’t get one as we have it on other days!

Sounds like a great trip!! I just took a trip with my boyfriend, who hasn't been since he was 3-4. I planted the Disney bug in him and now he is begging me to go back with him :hilarious:
