News “Zootopia” is being created for the Tree of Life theater

The current operating show is sadly lacking due to the impressive Hopper animatronic missing.
For me, that element missing really brings the experience down several notches.

Some of the in house effects have also been toned down / pulled back.

The audience however still reacts as they always have…especially at the end when the ‘bugs leave the theatre first’.

That’s too bad. How long has he been gone?

I think Hopper was working at some point in the past few months, I could swear I did the attraction and he was working. But is it extremely inconsistent I do assume they aren't bothering to fix it at this point if it's broken.

Even if the Bug's Life is a dated IP, you don't really need knowledge of the IP to enjoy the attraction, and it fits perfectly in the tree trunk. It was quite literally made for it with theming/Imagineering/planning. While I think Zootopia (if done well) will be a fun attraction, I wish it didn't have to come at the expense of the Bugs.

For some time on and off.
The last two showings I saw back in January he was out of action.
And Flik had a non- working mouth.

Reminded me of how far standards have slipped…
I am probably showing my age, but in the days of yore not that long ago if a figure had a non-working mouth the Attraction was closed until addressed.

A Timon and Pumbaa show would make more sense than Zootopia in my opinion.
You have them already as part of the Lion King show.

Though I don't per se have a problem with more Lion King at AK, I also can get behind the argument that you take the opportunity to put something something completely new not yet in the parks into the space, as opposed to just increasing the footprint of an existing IP

I really wish when Bug's Land was taken out at California Adventure they would have brought it over to DAK. While the rides were kiddie for sure, it would have been a cute addition to AK. I wonder why they did not. The park is hurting for attractions and they could have added a few more to round out the offerings.

For what it's worth, Hopper used to be considered a key figure. So if he didn't work, the attraction had to go 101 until it was addressed. Similar to the auctioneer in pirates, who was also a key figure. There were also key effects and animation. One fun example of key animation is Uncle Orville's fan in CoP. When I started with Ops in 2007, the attraction couldn't run if Orville's fan wasn't.

I assume key figures and effects are no longer a thing with modern park ops. As long as the vehicles move, the ride operates.

Any news on this project? With Country Bears done, I figured this would be the next thing to close and get worked on.
In May, a site this forum has a feud with mentioned new details about the show, including that it will be about a Zoo-gether day.

This is after Joe Rohde became a consultant for Disney, so I assume there is some oversight.

I don't think the show will be what the folks here are dreading. (But if they go in with "right" attitude, it still could be!)

If they do Zootopia and don't bring over the Clawhauser animatronic I will riot. I want nothing to do with Zootopia in Animal Kingdom, but that animatronic is one of the few redeeming elements in my personal opinion.
Clawhauser is in the concept art.

But then Mama Odie's Tree was atop Tiana's Bayou Adventure once too so...

I suggested that several years ago and whoo-boy did that idea get frowned upon..
