Disney Treasure, DCL’s 6th ship, debuts in 2024

I think this is a common theme with Disney in general, their new stuff is still enjoyable, it’s just not as good as their old stuff. If you never experienced the old it would be great.

We enjoyed the Wish, we’d even cruise on her again, we’d rather be on any of the prior 4 though.

Having sailed on other lines, no third elevator bank is super common so doesn't really bother me that Disney dropped it on their newer ships. More room for other stuff.

Same with fully wrapped around promenade decks. Neither is what felt special on DCL for me.

Having said that, the princess theme of the wish doesn't appeal to me (or my kids to be honest), but the themes on the Treasure and Destiny do, so I will definitely be sailing those if I can find an appropriate price point.

The lack of a third elevator didn’t bother us either, our biggest complaint was everything felt undersized, the tables were so close together in the dining rooms the servers would constantly bump into the chairs trying to get between them, the bars had so few seats you’d often have to stand to do trivia, the Star Wars bar was so tiny it constantly had a wait… we've never had problems finding a seat on the other ships.

Our other major complaint was the spa, the outdoor patio was nice but it was not worth losing the views from the upper floor for it, the layout felt very cramped compared to the spas on the other ships also.

That might not be a deal breaker for some but we spend probably an hour a day in the spa and a couple hours a day having cocktails and doing trivia, bingo, etc so it was a huge letdown for us.

I won't sail on anything but the original 4 DCL ships at this point, if I even book a Disney cruise after this year. The Wish was a one-and-done for us.

Our next cruise will likely be an Alaskan cruise on Princess, some of our friends did it and said it was on par with DCL quality, and better in some ways.

Yes. I think this is great point that often gets missed in the Wish bashing... the ship is bigger but everything feels smaller. I don't get claustrophobic but I almost felt that way at times on the Wish.

Following the structural completion milestone of the Disney Treasure in December 2023, the team in Papenburg, Germany has been focused on building out the interior spaces of the ship. This work includes preparations to bring Disney Cruise Line’s immersive Marvel-themed dining experience, Worlds of Marvel, to the Disney Treasure. In light of the progress being made, Ship’s Log readers are among the first to learn about the new “Guardians of the Galaxy” dinner show coming to Worlds of Marvel on the Disney Treasure titled, “Marvel Celebration of Heroes: Groot Remix.”

The story will follow Groot as he brings guests along for an on-screen quest to throw the ultimate surprise party for his friend, Rocket. All the while, diners will eat to the beat of an “awesome mix” of hit songs and can test their knowledge of the Marvel universe with trivia for the whole family. The new show will be offered to guests during one of two distinct nights at Worlds of Marvel, where they will also experience “Avengers: Quantum Encounter,” which first premiered on the Disney Wish.

Don't forget Genie (the character), Genie (the worthless AI plan-your-day that really wanted everyone to ride the carousel) and Genie+ (current paid fastpass), as well as Lightning Lane Singlepass (new ILL) and Lightning Lane Multipass (new paid fastpass for most rides, but not those on Lightning Lane Singlepass, because why would it?).

To be fair there are cat paw prints all over the piano and a wall mural too, but still a fair point.

But they do have a neat glass that the cat drink will be served in. There may be other details to discover as well. Time will tell.

I was thinking of skipping Treasure because (while I like Wish fine) I really couldn’t imagine two or three nights in World of Marvel…but my kids love GotG and Groot, so now I’m reconsidering. Of course, our advance booking window for the next set of sailings already passed.

I’m pretty impressed how much differentiation Disney is sinking into this one. The other cruise lines aren’t really making these broader sweeping modifications to their second ships. I expect the majority of Star of the Seas will be indistinguishable to Icon, as Viva is to Prima.

It also feels like DCL has a lot longer leash on what franchises they pick than the parks do.

Well to be fair.... Royal Caribbean isn't buying stars of the seas from someone else and converting it to a Royal Caribbean ship. They're building it from scratch and same for Viva at Norwegian Cruise line. They've already spent tons of money and the design and development of those ships. Disney bought this ship on the cheap and is now spending the money to make it a Disney ship.

They're building it from scratch and same for Viva at Norwegian Cruise line. They've already spent tons of money and the design and development of those ships. But I was just commenting about this. I'm impressed with what they're doing to the treasure versus the wish. So I share that with you. I'm a little underwhelmed with the aristocats bar. I was super excited to hear about it but the execution seems a little bit lackluster. A cute neon sign and some cute paw prints on the piano, but I agree with whoever stated it should be more of an old European look, And it definitely doesn't have that. But that's a small qualm and otherwise what looks to be by all means a huge improvement over the first ship in the class.

Without any context before reading the post, I thought it was themed to Soul. It’s not a bad choice, it’s just perhaps too subtle.

Disney Cruise Line has shared a new construction update on the Disney Treasure:

A few weeks ago, the final stateroom was installed on the beautiful Disney Treasure at Meyer Werft Shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. Needless to say, the process of positioning all 1,246 rooms inside the ship was quite an undertaking! It began when each cabin was prefabricated at an off-site factory on a slow-moving conveyor belt. As the cabins moved down the line, different team members went to work building out various components of the rooms, from the plumbing to the furniture and everything in between. Once each cabin was completely outfitted, they were loaded onto semi-trucks and individually transported to the yard. From there, they were carefully lifted by cranes and slotted into position within the Disney Treasure.

The progress photos show how each stateroom features a fresh, natural color scheme and custom artwork. Can you spot which Disney and Pixar films inspired the piece in the pictured room? The accommodations will soon become a home away from home for future Disney Cruise Line guests when they embark on family adventures later this year.
