I don't know if there's a risk. I was under the impression that there simply isn't enough evidence (yet) that a third shot will improve the odds that much. No one's saying it won't, they simply don't have enough information to say it will. If two Tylenol are good, three must be great and four must be incredible! What could possibly go wrong? :)

“Members of the committee expressed doubts about the safety of a booster dose in younger adults and teens, and complained about the lack of data about the safety and long term efficacy of a booster dose.”

From this article:

These are medical researchers and specialists, They don’t list their political affiliation so interpret that as you want.

There’s a few other good tidbits in there that don’t fit the current agenda but make perfect sense, especially by Dr. Michael Kurilla and Dr. Phil Krause. They do not fully agree with the current status quo so labeling them as right wingers might help with current arguments, even if not true.

"One of the issues in this is that much of the data that's been presented and being discussed today is not peer-reviewed and has not been reviewed by FDA," Krause told the meeting of the Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee.

"It's a little disappointing that there's been very little reporting of the cellular immune responses and an entire focus on the neutralizing antisera," Kurilla said. "Which clearly for that population at high risk is absolutely essential, but for the broad population in terms of their protection, which seems to be holding up well over time -- (that) should be because of adequate cellular immune responses but we have no indication of that.
"So it's unclear that everyone needs to be boosted, other than a subset of the population that clearly would be at high risk for serious disease."

I know ‘safety and research first’ doesn’t mean much to a lot of people right now, but I appreciate these doctors letting their opinion and research be known without hesitation.

What is the risk? I’m genuinely curious if there were any side effects more than the standard side effect with those that received the 3rd trial. If there wasn’t anything significant I’m not sure what the risk is.
So some loved ones of mine who are immunocompromised did have a worse third shot than a 2nd. But in those cases their 1st and even 2nd dose were pretty much nothing. I read once roughly 88% were same or less than 2nd shot. So about 1 in 10 of being worse than others. For me it was less than second in duration (took longer to feel side effects like the first), but none of my shots were really bad. For some people they had really bad 2nd doses. I wouldn't want a third if I were them and respect it.

I'm not sure we have real data yet. I went in for shot #3 2 months ago (to the day). Where I went, they had only been doing 3rd shots maybe 2 weeks at that point. So not a whole lot of time for real data IMO.

I would absolutely not be surprised if younger people (like my age) are told not to go for boosters at this time. I wouldn't be shocked to see it starting at about 55-60 though, and not just 65+ I also wouldn't be shocked if they eventually opt to do a 3 series shot and be done with it. No clue where J&J will fall.

“The new study found that from two weeks after recipients got their second dose — a point at which they are normally considered fully vaccinated — to four months later, the Pfizer vaccine was 91 percent effective in preventing hospitalization. Beyond 120 days, though, its effectiveness fell to 77 percent.”

Well paywall got me when I realized I copied wrong, but you left out important information where they are saying age might play into this more and that there were only 3700 looked at. So in short while this one study says 77% others are showing higher for Pfizer and Moderna. End result? We don't know yet...

My parents are 61-62. My mom works in healthcare and is already scheduled for a third shot through work on Oct 4. She has been for a couple months now. I think I’d also encourage my dad to get a booster at that point as well. He’s been fully vaxed since April.

Only question would be which vax did they get?

I absolutely do not begrudge anyone on that cusp so to speak getting a booster - no matter which the shot they got! Or even someone late 50s to be frank. The trial I am in now explicitly states that 56+ are in one group and 55 and under are in another with the split being 4k older and 6k younger. I don't think that's a coincidence. Before we were told equal numbers across the board. This time it was written out differently and likely for a reason.

I know a few people in health care getting 3rd doses as well. Again I absolutely see why and don't think it's bad. If you're in a high risk group due to your work, you're deserving of awesome protection IMO.

I've been slammed lately, where did you see results for booster trials (non-delta specific)? I've only had my shot 2 months now and hadn't seen anything yet
Pfizer’s statement:
Pfizer and BioNTech have submitted Phase 1 data – part of their Phase 1/2/3 clinical trial program – evaluating the safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity of a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in U.S. adult participants from the Phase 1 trial of the two-dose series. Participants received a 30-µg booster dose of BNT162b2 8 to 9 months after receiving the second dose. Results from this participant group show that the third dose elicited significantly higher neutralizing antibodies against the initial SARS-CoV-2 virus (wild type) compared to the levels observed after the two-dose primary series, as well as against the Beta variant and the highly infectious Delta variant.
I believe I saw the results in a published paper, not just Pfizer's statement. But do not have it on hand at the moment.

When both the companies making the vaccines, and then the current administration started talking about boosters, the media reported the "boosters are coming" in headlines and buried in their articles "upon approval by the CDC and FDA."

I've been posting here for a while that the media booster hype train was all hype because the FDA wasn't going to rush it.

Yes
Winter is coming guys. What FDA, CDC, Fauci and Biden will do for vaccinating people before Winter starts. I don't want a massive huge spike / surge coming this Winter. We need more people to be vaccinated before this Winter.

It's probably because I'm not trying to "score political points" and you're somehow mad that I responded to a few posts who were upset or wondering why the booster vote didn't go through.

Not just me but other posters who were wondering about the vote.

There is plenty new to that story because the vote just happened 2 days ago. New info has come out since then, smart people, research scientists and medical professionals, have made their statements as to why they didn't support 3rd shots.
