We have APs and go a couple times a month, so may be something we end up doing at some point.A customised one feels pointless if the battery isn't replacable.
You will use it for a week a year and then that's it. Maybe if you have an AP its worth it?

While you're correct regarding FULL functionality of the Band having a finite lifespan, the battery only powers the long-range reading of the Band (which is currently only used for auto-linking on-ride photos).
All tap-to-use functions of the Band will work indefinitely, since they are unpowered.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this option come out in the future. The fancy bands haven't been out all that long and now this create your own is brand new. They will probably see what the demand is and if it's enough, start offering it as an "upgrade" when you book your resorts.Yes but given I can get a brand new band for free with a reservation each time I visit which would have a full battery and allow everything to work, I would rather use the fully-functioning plain band than the custom one with a dead battery.
Now if they allowed you to order a custom band instead of your resort band, with a $10-15 discount for not taking the resort band, that would be more tempting.
No, purple isn't out, at least not in a way that would irritate your wife.my wife is now very ****ed.... was there a little over a month ago, and now Purple comes out????

This isn't the magic band you can preorder and get for free. These are bands that you can purchase after you get to the park only. I still hope that purple will come out as a free option, but, I wouldn't have any idea when it would happen.
The purple ones aren't coming out online anytime soon. When will they update website as I only have couple days before I'm not able to customise them - as I want the purple one
From what I remember, there was an issue with the dye used for purple. It was either bleeding/fading or causing skin problems. They had wanted it from the beginning.I love Disney marketing - they play with us so much.
Look at how folk are talking about purple, like it's rare & elusive. Disney could have created purple at the same time they made orange, yellow, green... but chose to leave it out. Why? Anyone's guess. However they now they realize by not having offered it at the start, they have created a demand for it, and folk who feel the need for purple will pay up for it. Clemson fans have their orange... LSU has yellow... but purple? go custom order a band. ... and all those kids, and adults who love the color? Cha-ching.
I'd love to have a purple band, but won't pay for it. If I were them, I wouldn't offer it for free at all. LOL.
