50th anniversary ideas for trip

A little background.......My parents are taking my wife, daughter, and myself to WDW in January for my daughter's first birthday and also her first Disney trip. We will be staying at the Polynesian. It also just so happens to be my parents 50th wedding anniversary and they stayed at the Polynesian in 1975 for their honeymoon. So it is a super cool and unique set of circumstances we have going on. My Mom even still has their picture book from their trip in 75. I was hoping to get some ideas from all of you of something unique we can do for them. I am trying to figure out from their pictures what room they originally stayed in but not sure if I can pin it down exactly. I already reached out to Disney events hoping they would have a unique idea but they said unless their is at least 10 people that it is not their territory. Would the Polynesian itself maybe offer-up some Disney magic of an idea? First thought is to do dinner together at the California Grill with fireworks which they will love, just trying to think of something with that Disney touch because of how unique (at least I think so?) their situation is. Thanks so much for your input on this.

Have you possibly considered doing a private fireworks cruise for them. We did it on our honeymoon and it was very wonderful! It was such an intimate experience for our trip!

And the Boathouse is also very delightful to have a meal it. It is so nice sitting out on the docks by the water at Disney Springs while enjoying the delicious food! Hope you all have a wonderful trip!

When you check in online, make sure you note the occasion and the staff may arrange some extra Disney magic (no guarantees of course.) If you send the hotel staff the honeymoon picture, they might even be able to figure out about where they stayed.

We spent our 25th anniversary at WDW --we got a anniversary button I hate to say this but I don't think Disney is going to do much --best to arrange something special on your own

To clarify, there is no way to note special occasions (or any other request) during online check in. The only way to have a request attached to a reservation is to call Disney travel and speak with a cast member. They will add requests to a reservation.

Having recently spent our 40th anniversary - club level - at the Poly, our milestone was not recognized nor acknowledged by any of the staff. Yes, it was noted on our reservation.

You could purchase a gift basket to be delivered to their room on arrival. There are lots of wonderful vendors out there - I've used Mouse Marketplace in the past and have been very happy (owned by former CMs who were laid off during the pandemic - they have multiple social media pages with their contact info)
I think California Grill would be a very special gift as well.
Happy Anniversary to them and I know you will have a wonderful trip!

Agreed. You get slightly better odds of recognition if you stay club level, but current Disney is not the same as it used to be. Odds are, even if you stay club level these days, they will not do much

1. Except when you walk in the room the television will be on and might display a 'Welcome Smith Family, Happy Anniversary' message.

2. One thing you might get if you ask to have the anniversary on your reservation, is when you look at your ride photos, they will send you a prerecorded message as one of your Disney photos in MDE. It is a little 'voice message', and easy to miss. (perhaps linked w/riding Buzz.)
3. I think you can also still request a wake-up call when staying at a WDW hotel, and that includes a message for a happy anniversary. It will be a recording of a Disney character. Universal hotels, I think, also does the television screen and maybe a wake-up call- not 100% sure though.

4. If you go by the concierge desk, or GS in the park, and ask, they will still give you a free button. CM's who see the button will congratulate you verbally.

5. If you have it noted specifically on one of your ADR's, you might get a tiny dessert, especially if you opt to dine at a Signature dining location, and your odds go up if you are not using dining credits when you eat there. If you are looking for a nice dinner, Topolino's around sunset is nice, but anticipate the meal will take up a good chunk of your evening. Neat view of the Epcot fireworks though! Our most recent meal there was pretty good. Not as good as a year ago. It was a bit $$$ IMO for what we got. My entree was 3sea scallops for $50 with a few smears of orange vegetable, some carrot peels, and a few sprigs of lettuce. Pretty peels, but carrot peels! A bit scant for the price.

6. If you want a special custom cake, and go through WDW, it can be done, but it will cost quite a bit, and there are limits. They will sell you a generic cake as part of making an ADR. Getting a more custom cake requires a call to - I think- the Grand Floridian bakery. I did it a few years back, and was underwhelmed, especially given the price we paid. In all seriousness, my local grocery store makes better looking and better tasting cakes that cost far less.

If you want a special cake, you would do better to go to an offsite cake maker, and have the cake delivered. To do that though, you have to meet up the cake delivery person in-person. I used a private company called Magical Vacation Services (former CM) that delivered groceries, and that could probably include a cake, esp if it came from like Publix. They also do some gift baskets, but nothing jumped out to me. There are other businesses started by former CM's who specialize in cakes, but I don't have any specific names. WDW will still deliver flowers and other Disney gift packages, but again, through Disney they are $$$.

We did receive a birthday card when we stayed at the Dolphin for a birthday, but that was (shortly) before the pandemic.

I think you can still buy items like customized Christmas ornaments at the Christmas Shoppe, and also try the Art Corner in Disney Springs. If they are up for it, you can have a private photo session via WDW photographer, and/or you can have a small silhouette cutout made in MK. We did one a long time ago, and it was a really neat keepsake. the price was pretty reasonable. - I think still on Main Street, Liberty Square, maybe France in Epcot. and maybe Disney Springs.

Over the years weve had vacations at WDW that coincided with anniversaries, birthdays and special events in our lives. They were all "noted" on our reservations. Its been hit or miss as to whether something magical happened to acknowledge or plus our trip by the staff. I'm always prepared to plan extras myself in the form of bringing gifts from home or plan a tour or order something from one of the gift services.
Disney cant make magic for every guest because there are so many on vacation that are celebrating things. You have to hit on the right staff member in the right mood that wants to do something for you. if that happens then it adds to your trip but dont go in expecting it to happen for you.
My suggestion is to see what they havent done before and plan a special tour. There are several that can please their likes. Gift them with a dessert party. Take them up high over the property with the DS balloon lift. Since the event is tied into the Poly then go to the gift shop and purchase some Poly specific gifts and make up your own Poly gift basket. You can also go online and find Poly specific items to purchase and bring along with you to gift them with.
AND theres nothing saying things cant be planned off site as well. There are many special things in the Orlando area that can be looked into to be done to add to a special event trip.

Great points, I'll take a look at the tour options. Thanks!

I should maybe add, for us, the best option is usually to keep the extras relatively simple. When it comes down to it, whenever we plan an extra that we don't normally do, it usually means we have to skip something we normally do.

So sometimes little extras don't always go over as well as I think they will.

One gift that usually works well is simply an extra Disney gift card to spend however they wish.
