4 Band trips to WDW in 5 Years!

Hello all,

This is my first post, so I thought I would share an interesting tidbit about the 4 times I went to Disney with my H.S. & college marching bands.

The first was my senior year in high school at Moody High School in Alabama. Our big spring trip was to WDW that year (1995).
Later in that same year, I was a member of the Auburn University Marching Band (also in Alabama) and we went to the Outback Bowl that year (it rained ALL WEEK), stopping by at WDW on the way. Well, that was pretty neat, going twice in the same year, but the following year, we went again on our trip to Gainesville for the Auburn/Florida game. (FYI: Auburn and U. of Fla. are both SEC schools and played each year). Two years later, we went to Gainesville again and naturally stopped at Disney. Many bandmembers actually complained about going back to MK, so we went to Epcot instead on that trip. Anyway, that is how I went to WDW on 4 band trips in 5 years. The coolest part about all this, of course, is that the 3 times I went while at Auburn, the trips were "all expenses paid." It's also cool to go backstage if you've never been before.

I hope I haven't bored you all to death with this! Please reply if you have anything to say about this or have had a band trip to WDW.

WOW, I wish every year our marching band would go. We were going to actually.. but then sadly someone did something naughty at band camp and it was cancelled. What instrument (s) do you play?

I played tenor saxophone, but I probably couldn't play a note today! I hate to hear that you missed out on a trip over something someone did. It is neat going with all your friends. We also went to Mardi gras and Washington DC in other years when I was in HS. Those trips were great too.

Well when I went in HS I was part of the Chorus. We were HUGE(i'll post a pic...) Singing at Disney World was one of the most incredible expieriences of my life and I have to say, I cried half the time LOL. It was kinda like a dream come true for me. The had the microphones up and they played us all around the park! People came up to us and said we were increadible (we did have a VERY good chorus and an AMAZING leader.) I wish I could do it all again.

I have enclosed a pic of our (HUGE) chorus

wow! my school is pretty small!! we have only 30 or 40 people in the show choir. and like 50 or a lil more in the band! we compete in show choir. but not band. show choir comp. are SO fun! lol, we never win coz we go up against awesome groups, but we did beat our rival school at our last comp! it was awesome! our director told us on the bus on the way home & we all started cheering & Stuff (b4 she told us, we were upset that we didn't make it to finals)! the sad part is, we messed BIG time on this one part....and we still beat em! sorry to keep talkin, but i just felt like sharing that :D

Size DOESNT matter lol

I have been to a lot of those competitions and i have found that the smaller the group, the better they tend to sound. My group just happened to have an exceptional leader who worked us to perfection. Thats why we excelled. I bet your group blends VERY nicely... and i bet u sound awesome.

I play Tuba.My band was at MK on the Tommorow Land stage on May 6th.It was pretty cool going back behind Splash Mt., and Tommorow Land, getting to go into the building where they keep the SpectroMagic costumes, and going by where they keep the monorails, trains, and where the old 20k subs are.

I play flute and bassoon.. but in marching band I play tuba also (Well, sousaphone but it's the same thing). Unfortunately I'm on dance team now so I no longer get to play. But I did play that thing for two years hehe It was so much fun!

We went to Arizona for our choir trip.. My choir directors TURNED DOWN the invitation from Disney. Our band went 3 years later. My brother was in it. Damn him...

I play Clarinet. My band was supposed to go last February but because of 9-11 the school district banned all school trips that involved flying or out of country travel. My band directors decided they didn't want to spend 26 hours on a bus with 100 teenagers, so we ended up going to Cleveland, Ohio. It wasn't as much fun as WDW would have been. My marching band also goes to band camp every year at Michigan State University for a week. It was always sooooo much fun. I'm gonna miss it this year since I've graduated and are no longer in the marching band.:(

other band trips

Have any of you ever been to Ireland on a band trip? My HS went to WDW, Mardi Gras (twice), Knoxville, TN, and Washington DC while I was there, and then they went to Ireland a couple years after I graduated. I have heard that other bands go to Ireland too , but I never understood why they would want to spend all that $$ to go there. We obviously had great trips at Moody HS though!

Laughs and points at all the band dorks.......

We were debate dorks, no WDW trips, but we had about a hundred times as many frequent flyer miles as band (travelling nationally every weekend) and we actually had some semblence of usefull skills, unfortnatly we have this tendency to turn into really good lawyers.......

More and more over the last past ten or so years there have been a lot of out-of-state high school programs that have been taking there students to WDW and I think it's great! I only wish that my high school did that when I was in school.
