2011 Christmas Day Parade Discussion

OK, let's turn this into a giant absurd (although typical) online Disney discussion that paints me as a racist (and anti-white too, which must mean I am a self-hater -- unlike most Disney fanbois!)

For the record, I just stated an observation that I am seeing increasingly in WDW parks, but was surprised to see showcased on the telecast -- and that is the audience shown was about 98.9% white.

Whether you think this is a good thing or a bad thing or an irrelevant thing isn't the point, it was an observation and one I felt deserved mention (especially since the show had a lot of diversity among those performing). :xmas:

"For the record" also, tickets for the taping were handed out on a first-come-first-serve basis for CMs in November on a Monday morning. I was there first thing and they gave out up to 6 tickets to each CM until they ran out. When I came out of the building, the line for the tickets was clear down the sidewalk next to DU.

Besides CMs having tickets for the taping, regular day guests were able to be a part of some of it.

So the demographic of the ticket holders depended on who got up early enough to go and get tickets and guests in the park that stood tp watch the taping on those particular days.

Just another reason why I don't like the way the parade is handled these days. An audience largely made up of cast, rabid fanbois and every blogger/podcaster/webmaster in town.

When it was live, it was an equal opportunity event and one that wasn't staged like a commercial, no matter the message. Folks showed up, entered and saw the parade or pieces of it, just like the people who were actually there this year on 12/25 did. Now, it's all set up ... and staged ... and controlled so that nothing can possibly go wrong (including the weather ... we love it when it is 80 and sunny, but not so much when it is 53 and rainy!)

It may have always been a commercial, but at least it used to be a live and honest one. :xmas:

Macy's Thanksgiving "Parade". Nope not a parade but a variety show poorly done. WDW Christmas "Parade". Nope not a parade but a variety show and extremely long commerical even worse than Macy's. :lookaroun So we got out the 1991 video of the Disney Parade and it WAS really a parade. I love Major Mike! :D

That comment right there... "Controlled so that nothing can possibly go wrong" makes this parade even worse because THEY DIDN'T EVEN SHOW THE RIGHT CONCEPT ART FOR THE FANTASYLAND EXPANSION... They showed the concept art with the Princess chateaus and Pixie Hollow... Staggs has announced the Mine Train how long ago??? Concept art has been available for how long showing the change??? And they provide the WRONG concept art? That is poor and shows how much little attention is paid to detail... But I am sure there will be some members here who will no doubt defend the mouse on this one too... Because, hey, who cares, It is Disney, they are perfect, and hey, the parade served its purpose... Show doesn't matter anymore, and, well, it shows...

Ah yes, I remember a couple of years ago they went back to using regular day guests as their audience. Not only did they have to blur out logos but the guests appeared to be bored to death because they had to stand in the crowd all day and didn't get to rush to their favorite ride. Because of this very reason, tickets are now given out and a dress code is laid out. CMs can care less about the attractions that day because they can do them any other day.

I didn't see that ... either it was in the first 30 minutes or I just wasn't paying enough attention. Either way, I can only say that is typical. For a company that became reknowned around the world because it paid attention to the most tiny detail, now not much matters. :xmas:

Day guests should be allowed to see the parade since Disney doesn't run a disclaimer telling audiences they are viewing largely CMs, local rabid fanbois and the social media whoring contingent. ... Of course, that might make the whole show appear more ... I dunno ... insincere ... fake ... cynical ...

I don't know what happened when they 'went back' to 'using' REAL guests in the audience. I am sure they looked bored if Disney was doing (which I am sure it was) deal of spending 45 minutes trying to get the perfect angle on the ancient princess float (I believe this was an artifact found in one of the Mayan pyramids that predicted an end of days!:D). Again, that's not what I'm talking about or would like to see.

I'm talking about showing the REAL X-mas Parade LIVE with REAL GUESTS under real world conditions. It can be done. It just would cost more in terms of time and labor and Disney wouldn't be able to guarantee to Iger just what people might see.

A put on sham is much preferable. :xmas:

Wow you are kinda funny in a sad way...because yes it is awesome to watch a Christmas Parade when it downpours and every looks horrible because of the weather...your blind hatred of Disney no valid reason is quite old

Gee, here I was all annoyed because our local ABC network decided to air a locally sponsored religious program instead of the Disney Parade. Sounds as if I didn't miss much.

Wow, our local ABC here in San Antonio did the exact same thing to us. First hour a local church, followed by 2 half hour infomercials! :goodnevil

Still, I guess it was a blessing in disguise.

The Canadian broadcast was a little better then the american broadcast and it featured the "Lights Of Winter" for a brief moment.

I uploaded it on mousebits if anyone is interested...
