I miss the old captain. I don't mind them adding the Jack Sparrow subplot but I wish they had just added that in and not altered the already existing parts of the ride. Just having Jack pop up hiding in various spots within the ride would have been unobtrusive.
So this is a tough one. As much as I remember fondly the original POTC ride and enjoyed the original characters before the movie makeover, Geoffrey Rush played hands-down the best pirate in cinema since Robert Newton. (Sorry Mr. Depp... you're not far behind them.)
For me, having Rush's Barbossa in that famous scene just fits the ride brilliantly.
