$100 million being spent this year on MK

According to an article published a couple of months ago in the Orlando Sentinel and Sun Sentinel, they will be spending $100 million on reconstruction projects at the MK. The article said that most of the work will be "behind the scenes" and guests wouldn't really notice much change.

But with all the news lately of all the current rehabs going on or scheduled to go on, it seems that they really are investing in MK to help make it look new again! This is really good news! I wonder why WDW is being quiet about this.. they should be bragging about what they are doing! Why are the details of what's going on so secretive?

IMO if they start spouting off about all the work they are doing to update everything, it will be at least partially admitting to the fact that they have failed to keep the parks up to the standard we are all used to.

I have to wonder how much of that $100 million is being spent on rehabs like Tom Sawyers, Stitch, Small World; stage work, destruction of 20KLUTS, and the construction of Everest and Soarin' ?

They ARE spending tons on the MK: lots of rehabs, Stitch's Great Escape, the lagoon deal, and IASW.

I am MOST PLEASED with the recent MK happenings -- especially with the rumor about CoP being refreshed!! :sohappy:

(besides Goofy show :brick: )

This is for MK only, so Soaring and Everest aren't included in this figure. I don't think Stitch is included either, since that project goes into the "new attractions" category, not the rehab category, but the other projects you mentioned are probably included in that figure, as is the repavimg of the Mk parking lot.

A pleased General Grizz? I take it you ended your WDW boycott?!! Do you admit that Eisner is doing something right for a change? Of course if it wasn't for Roy Disney's campaign, this might not have happened!

My wife will be happy with the re-paved parking lot! :sohappy: For some sick. strange reason, she likes the smell of the fresh asphalt and says it reminders her of the "T" in Boston.

I never had a WDW boycott. That post came at a time when I had no scheduled trips. . . and have visted the best resort on the earth several times since. :D

I believe this is the work of the new Walt Disney Attractions President, Jay Rasulo. :)

...which Eisner promoted to the job, and whom Eisner is allowing to make these changes, and whom Eisner agreed to requests by him for additional funding... I remember when you made the same argument against Esiner concerning Jay's predecessor. But one difference: Eisner ended up forcing him to step down because Eisner realized his mistake.

I'm not really going to support Eisner because of these changes (as his cutbacks at WDI are letting less ideas flourish at WDW). And while I am pleased Pressler has been replaced, based on how Eisney has hit the Animators, films, and an overall increase to the cheap to the various sections of the company -- also hitting the WDW cast -- we need someone better.

Isn't it more of a Cast Member Matt, and Al thing? From everything Jay has spoken about, in public at least, it all seems to be suit talk. Unless he is being cunning, and fooling Eisner into thinking he is one of them, when really he is a park guy at heart.

The real Eisner strikes again! Go shoot the Hippos Mike, you idiot!

I agree Grizz. One good point does not clean a slate of many, many bad points!

Mmmmm.....agreed with the earlier posts about the rehabs and money now being spent is proof that it was needed for many years and that this in no way rehabilitates Eisner's image. I mean really, NOW he decides to spend money on the parks? NOW he realizes that the parks have been the main cash engines for the company propping up all their other failed enterprises? NOW he realizes that the short term cash you spend on maintenance and upkeep will prevent major overhauls and accidents in the future? It seems Uncle Mike has seen the light. A light switched on by 43% of the shareholders who voted against him.

This is definitely Rasulo's doing. Al Weiss was head of WDW before Rasulo came along, and I think we all know how the parks were deteriorating and how few new rides opened between 2000 and 2002. Then Rasulo came along and is changing things. Not saying I don't like Al Weiss, but he isn't the source of these changes--he doesn't seem to fight for stuff to nearly the same level as Matt Ouimet, either...

I know, I read it. But this also means that it wasn't Eisner who gave the order to have that bit removed, since he didn't even know about it. So, it looks like other people have been behind the destruction of the park, and Eisner has been ignorant of it, which is both good and bad. Good because EIsner has no interest in destroying the parks; bad because Eisner should have taken an interest in the parks to make sure things like this doesn't happen.
