Spotlights return to Disney's Hollywood Studios

I do miss the days when the Magic was NEVER spoiled with construction or maintenance. It was part of the mythology and mystery - those things happened at night. I would leave in the 70's and 80's and the closest thing to maintenance I saw were the gas-powered vacuums coming down Main Street...

conversely the least favorite WDW smell

Can't believe it took 70 posts for someone to mention this one. Bingo.

Would you Meet and Greet Walt Disney?

Yeah that would be weird. And enough people still know both his quotes and his voice that it would be difficult, and probably expensive, to contract the right guy. It's not an impossible idea, but it would be challenging to pull off. I like the creative thinking you put into this Magicart87.

When you get to WDW, what sight makes you smile and decompress?

This sight, this sound, this smell... (light a fire, eat bbq, and sit near a bubbling hot tub for full effect)

What little things that WDW used to do/have do you miss?

No maintenance during the day. It was a big deal. I imagined the entire park busy with painters and repairmen all night, toiling so the Magic Kingdom could be a true escape during the day.

Powdered soap Topiary on the monorail run from TTC to MK

What little things that WDW used to do/have do you miss?

Twinkling lights in the trees in the Hub at night. By far the first thing that came to mind.

Disney Finally Squashes Illegal Kiddie Gambling

Surprised more people aren't saying this as this was my first reaction. Have always hated that building with BAH fervor. And if the building itself wasn't bad enough, the most mundane occupant of every dilapidated mall and convenience store - the lowly arcade - had to fill the space at the end...

Photos, photos, photos! Coming soon to your favorite attractions!

I don't think there has to be a flash to grab a HHG photo. You're watching a manipulated real-time image of yourself. Can't they just grab a frame from that? In fact, couldn't they give you a choice of effect, in case you didn't like the random head-swap you got? That would be pretty neat.

Two new Disney Cruise Line ships??

Yeah they were cleaning balconies top-to-bottom, you're right. Lots of crew out there with hoses and towels and squeegees. However, before the cleaning started, the balconies were unused and the chairs leaned up against the tables on the top deck. The curtains all closed. Nobody was home...

Two new Disney Cruise Line ships??

Another thought... Magic and Wonder are absolutely gorgeous in profile. Dream and Fantasy, as all larger ships, are not. Not sleek, not handsome. A ship's outward appearance is not really that important since, as a customer, you're seeing the inside most of the time. But I'll admit that...

Two new Disney Cruise Line ships??

Speaking strictly as a frequent cruiser on several lines, with no interest in cruise industry finances, Magic and Wonder are in severe need of a refit. Other lines at the high end of the midrange cruise spectrum are drydocking every few years and lately they've been performing major refits at...

Take the scents of the Magic Kingdom home with you

Turkey Leg will absolutely sell. It'll sell as a joke. It'll sell as an impulse buy. It'll sell to solid carnivores. It'll sell to nostalgia freaks. It'll sell, but it won't spend much time actually hanging from rear-view mirrors. Cuz, you know, gross.

Little Mermaid soft opening labor day week?

I know it's not worth a hill-o-beans as news, but Frommer's Budget Traveler magazine (May/Jun 2012, p.43) lists TLM, Be Our Guest, and Storybook Circus as one of five "This Year's Don't-Miss Park Attractions". The bit was void of an actual date, but it comes across as a summer-edition guide...

Balzac no longer for sale in any of the Disney parks

Wasn't the largest Balzac about $300? I'm not joking. Years ago I asked and I'm pretty sure I remember I almost choked on my Mickey's Premium.
