News Disney updates its legendary Four Keys model to include a fifth key

I feel like Disney has always been ahead of the curve on the diversity piece. When I worked for them I always felt like our workforce was incredibly diverse and inclusive, with zero tolerance for racism, sexism, ageism, ableism or homophobia/transphobia. I remember someone getting fired on the...

News Disney updates its legendary Four Keys model to include a fifth key

It depends on how passive-aggressively you're telling them to have a magical day.

On paper yes, but in practice it's more like Safety, Efficiency, Courtesy, Show.

Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

Those groups are the bane of my existence and I wish they'd all be reduced to smoldering craters. Nothing good comes out of unofficial mombook university parent pages, just misinformation and "7 Hot Tips to try and beat the system to get exactly what you want at this school". It's like a support...

Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

Can confirm. I work for a university. The audacity of the parents putting the blame on us because we're not "doing enough" is mind boggling. We're a school, not a prison. There's only so much we can do to police behavior and they'd be on us with litigation so fast if we attempted expulsion for...

A sequel? Nah, not this one

For perspective, the entirety of Diagon Alley was $500M. I'm pretty sure New Fantasyland as a whole also hovered around that price tag (although those were 2009 dollars so YMMV).

Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

There's a reason it's called Mombook by the young people these days since the demographics of it are skewed surprisingly towards boomers. Ironic considering I joined back in the day when you had to have a college email address to join. It was a considerably simpler, less toxic platform back...

Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

And people wonder why it feels like there's no end in sight with this? People can be so freaking selfish, I swear.

Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

Yes because the "research" anti-vaxxers use to justify their beliefs is about as rock-solid as the "research" flat-earthers try to use that proves the earth isn't round (spoiler alert: their research proved the earth was, in-fact, round).

On layoffs, very bad attendance, and Iger's legacy being one of disgrace

There's a lot of management bloat at Disney but merchandise is probably one of the areas that could stand to have the most fat trimmed.

On layoffs, very bad attendance, and Iger's legacy being one of disgrace

That's a grossly specific scenario and I think I need to take a shower after reading that. Especially considering that could happen easily even in a non-COVID environment.

On layoffs, very bad attendance, and Iger's legacy being one of disgrace

Wow, thank you for showing me the light. Clearly I just needed the advice of Flynnibus from WDWMagic to get out of my situation. They are clearly the end-all, be-all of advice on how to further yourself in your own career. You must be a joy at parties. You don't know anything about my personal...

Dude you literally joined the forum a month ago to troll and shill for the people with opinions like yours. Nobody cares.

On layoffs, very bad attendance, and Iger's legacy being one of disgrace

It's not that easy. Refer back to the post describing the circumstances on how I got out of there. Until you've actually lived it for nearly a decade, you really just have no room to have an informed opinion on the matter. Frankly I'm bored of all the armchair economists sitting here telling...

On layoffs, very bad attendance, and Iger's legacy being one of disgrace

That's a huge word salad to essentially say 'pull yourself up by your bootstraps'. Which is another way of saying 'my unique situation worked for me, so clearly it will also work for you'.

On layoffs, very bad attendance, and Iger's legacy being one of disgrace

It's my personal experience that the unions at WDW are fairly weak and don't have much leverage in negotiations. The UAW they are not. Yeah sure they got the $15 an hour increase but it was not an instantaneous raise. Like all of their "increases", it gets phased in over the lifetime of the...

On layoffs, very bad attendance, and Iger's legacy being one of disgrace

Because full turnover and training every six months made up of a workforce primarily of 18-20somethings looking for a semester off school to party just screams consistently high quality service.

But it's ok for them to make them because otherwise who would do the work to provide you with the service you want, right?

That's all fine and dandy if Orlando weren't a black hole that's nearly impossible to get out of once you get sucked in. The ONLY reason I managed to escape from it was because my husband got an extremely lucrative job offer across the country that included a relocation reimbursement, in the...

    French Quarter and Riverside

Side note, does anybody know if Disney is offering an alternative moderate resort option to bring pets? PORI was the only moderate that allowed non-service animals. Coming with family next year and they want to bring their dogs.
