Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

There’s an infinite number of Tonys in the multiverse. They aren’t going to bring back the Tony we’ve been following, but A Tony will be back and it won’t be a minor role. I’d bet quite heavily that it won’t be a hologram or something like that. It will be a flesh and blood Tony from another...

News The Walt Disney Company Board of Directors Extends Robert A. Iger’s Contract as CEO Through 2026

Turns out the anti-Peltz crowd did exactly what they said they would - they went back to criticizing Iger and skeptically discussing potential expansion plans.

News Big changes coming to EPCOT's Future World?

The Epcot redesign is basically the physical manifestation of Disney's recent history of management dysfunction. You could write a book about what's gone wrong at the executive level of Disney with each chapter beginning with a description of some aspect of the makeover - hamhanded reliance on...

Rumor Lion King Flume Ride being considered for Animal Kingdom

May I ask what “traditional” means in this context?

News Tiana's Bayou Adventure - latest details and construction progress

I’d argue otherwise. Again, Tiana’s restaurant dream is tied to the characters past and personality. It matters to us because it matters to her. It’s special. Sure, a restaurant owner might branch out into other sectors (although we might argue about how realistic that is in Tiana’s case...

News Tiana's Bayou Adventure - latest details and construction progress

On a very fundamental level - Tiana’s dream was to open a restaurant. It was a dream deeply inspired by her personal experience. When did she decide she wanted to be a corporate food wholesaler? That’s like making the jump from “Ariel wants to be part of the human world,” to “Ariel wants to...

News Tiana's Bayou Adventure - latest details and construction progress

The auctioneer isn’t gesturing at us, he’s very specifically addressing other figures within the fiction. The auctioneer is an integral part of a large and incredibly well-designed scene full of gags and characterization.

News Tiana's Bayou Adventure - latest details and construction progress

I’m feeling complain-y today. That Tiana’s Food sign is pretty bad… it not only feels anachronistic but physically out of place as well.

News Tiana's Bayou Adventure - latest details and construction progress

So what we’ve got hear is some real reaching. I’ll start with a concession - I should have stipulated I was referring to the AMERICAN parks. We can all list amazing overseas AAs, especially in Tokyo and in Mystic Manor. A significant part of your list is AAs shown off at press events who...

News 'Encanto' and 'Indiana Jones'-themed experiences at Animal Kingdom

Darn it, I want an all-dog "Up" themed carousel in AK.

News Tiana's Bayou Adventure - latest details and construction progress

I know I'm late to the party, but I just saw the most recent AA video. The figures are all very impressive in their way, but there's an overwhelming sameness to them, because they all do the exact same thing - they stand their and gesture rhythmically. It's the same thing the Shaman does, that...

News 'Beyond Big Thunder Mountain' Blue Sky concept revealed for Magic Kingdom

I think that's a huge part of it. Dark rides are closely akin to film - you're just moving the audience instead of the camera. I'm sure there's a whole host of other reasons for the move away from scenes we could speculate about.

News 'Beyond Big Thunder Mountain' Blue Sky concept revealed for Magic Kingdom

Not sure where you're getting your "average" here. Even if we take that claim as true, Frozen is UNDER a minute, so its less then half as long as the "average" coaster. That's significant.

News 'Beyond Big Thunder Mountain' Blue Sky concept revealed for Magic Kingdom

Yeah, the problem with Poppins is that fans and imagineers have been discussing a Poppins dark ride for decades, so announcing a flat fell flat. Bringing this back to BBTM, the Phase 1 Coco expansion needs some capacity eaters, perhaps a flat and a small show venue (actually, Coco would be...

News 'Encanto' and 'Indiana Jones'-themed experiences at Animal Kingdom

Seems a shame not to have a significant animal addition. Are we relatively sure of the Coco carousel? It doesn't really seem to fit, especially with the planned BBTM stuff. Wouldn't an Encanto or Up carousel (full of dogs!) make more sense?

News 'Beyond Big Thunder Mountain' Blue Sky concept revealed for Magic Kingdom

We'll criticize Curse of the Werewolf at EU for the exact same thing. You can win. Making rides that last more then a minute is a start.

News 'Encanto' and 'Indiana Jones'-themed experiences at Animal Kingdom

A couple questions - sorry if they’ve been answered: Will the Dinoland replacement contain live animal displays? What type of ride do we expect Encanto to be? It seems mad if it’s not Florida’s Mystic Manor - the IP is custom-made for that.

News 'Beyond Big Thunder Mountain' Blue Sky concept revealed for Magic Kingdom

But that’s what the setting feels like it demands. RJ is D- or E-level sets with nothing in them. Toad was a bunch of painted flats, but it felt more complete because things happened and the aesthetic was consistent and C-level. RJ isn’t a C, it’s an unfinished chunk of an E.

News 'Beyond Big Thunder Mountain' Blue Sky concept revealed for Magic Kingdom

It’s scenes. Disney can’t or won’t create scenes anymore, the kind that defined not only Es like HM or WoM but also smaller scale dark rides. River Journey is disappointing because it lacks scenes - it’s like looking at a stage with no performance. At least Frozen sort of tries to create...
