Reservation for Rent - 1BR Old Key West 11/26-11/29

I have a reservation for rent at OKW for 11/26-11/29 in a 1 BR. If anyone is interested in a short trip over the Thanksgiving break, please DM me to work out the details.

We're having a 4th kid and will need to start doing 2 bedrooms. Thinking of buying a large Hilton / Vero contract...

I agree with the above poster that buying now doesn't make a ton of sense if you are selling in 8-10 years. You may also get stuck with Vero and HH contracts that are less attractive on the resale market. Who knows what resale will look like then. And all it takes is one hurricane for HH and...

    Rumor New Monorails Coming Soon?

I'm always amused when I see that people think the global economy is a free market.

    Buzz queue refurb?

Either that or lower the ratio. I get that FP+ is supposed to shorten waits, but all it really does is let you get on three things fairly quickly at the expensive of significantly increasing standby wait times at every other attraction. I'd argue that without FP+ in place at all, people's...

News Beaches & Cream closing Aug 5 for refurb and expansion

These are ridiculous expectations. How many reservations are hotel restaurants supposed to hold out on the chance that a hotel guest wants to eat there? This would totally break the restaurant economic model. There is no hotel restaurant anywhere that is saving reservations for guests only. If...

Would it make sense for me to purchase DVC?

I'm not sure if you read the entire thread, but if you did then this is bad advice. The OP has said, subsequent to her initial post, that she typically books at 6 months, which is not far enough in advance for most DVC bookings. Additionally, she typically travels with anywhere between 4-6 or...

    RNRC Re-Theming Rumors...... again

Hopefully not. WDW has an overwhelming number of family attractions. There need to be a few things that have a higher thrill level. I'm not a super thrill seeker, but I think RnRR is great. I'd say Disney coasters push my limits about as far as I am willing to go.

Old Key West - Should we or shouldn't we?

Bus service at Disney is like any other public transportation system. Most of the time it works well, but that doesn't mean zero problems or delays. If you're used to having a rental car and coming and going as you please, then bus service might not be for you. OKW has multiple internal bus...

    T-Rex vs. Rainforest Cafe

They're basically the same except one has dinosaurs. Some say T-Rex is louder and can be more scary for younger kids. Also, if you have a Landry's card you don't need to make an ADR, as Landry's Card members get priority seating.

Would it make sense for me to purchase DVC?

If you typically book at 6 months, that might not be far out enough in advance with DVC. It is getting harder and harder to book inside of 7 months. You might have more luck with later booking with 2brs, since studios are typically the first room type to sell out at most resorts (which also eats...

    Best ages to go : 1, 5 & 7 years or 2, 6 & 8 years?

You're late in the game as far as booking a trip for this upcoming Christmas-New Years. I don't know where you planned on staying, but the values and some moderates like POR-Riverside have no availability. You're going to have an extremely difficult time to get any popular ADRs. CRT...

    Allegiant Airlines?

About half of their MD-80 fleet has made emergency landings. In 2016 an investigation by the Tampa Bay Times determined their planes were four times more likely to have in flight failures than other major U.S. airlines. Other public records indicate a 3.5x times higher more likely to have mid...

Old Key West - Should we or shouldn't we?

I really like OKW. I first stayed there as a teen in the 90's when my grandparents purchased DVC. I've been a DVC owner since 2012 and even though AKV is our home resort, two of our five stays have been at Old Key West. Part of it is the sentimentality of the family trips there when younger...

News UP! A Great Bird Adventure Getting A Rewrite

I googled "Guano Joe" walt disney world, and the first result is the guy's LinkedIn profile. It says he was a performer at WDW from Sept 1989 through January 2018. The end date coincides with the new show debuting. I hope he retired or left on his own choice and wasn't canned because they had no...

Are the DVC Member PERKS worth it?

No they are not. The only perk that ever could be "worth it" are the AP discounts but even then you've gotta buy a lot of APs to reach the break even point for that. Also note that any perks can be taken away at any time. They should not be the primary reason for purchasing.

Any regrets? Why shouldn't I buy in?

We bought resale in 2012 and have 250 points at AKV. We got enough points to stay in 1 bedrooms (we have 3 kids, currently 10 years old). Personally I think any of the studios that sleep 5 are tight, esp as kids get bigger. But you seem to have your heart set on Poly and they say to buy where...

    RCI Question

You could try calling member services and explain the situation of your resale purchase and asking if they'll reallocate those borrowed points into the 2018 UY so that they don't expire. It's possible you could get some pixie dust, or not. But it wouldn't hurt to ask.

How many points did you purchase?

250 at AKV bought resale in 2012 - one transaction, but it was one 200 point contract and one 50 point contract. So far it has worked out well for us. We typically go yearly and stay in one bedrooms (2 adults and 3 children).
