Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

Well considering that article specifically says: "Afterwards, Pence is scheduled to participate in a discussion with hospitality and tourism leaders to talk about plans for reopening." I'd say that it's probably not unscheduled nor being kept too quiet. ;)

News Disney Springs Begins Phased Reopening on May 20

For what it's worth, Georgia seems to be continuing to trend downward (both in terms of new cases and deaths) since opening up three weeks ago: https://dph.georgia.gov/covid-19-daily-status-report

Would you visit Walt Disney World with these health-based operational restrictions in place?

This isn't necessarily true-- if they follow the current policy they have in place in Shanghai Disneyland, Annual Passes are being extended, on a day-for-day basis, for every day the park is closed plus every day the park is operating under restrictions.

Assuming they follow the Shanghai model- they'll extend the APs day for day for each day closed or under restrictions. Shangai is also requiring AP holders to get a no-cost reservation in order to enter the park. Whether or not WDW does the same is anyone's guess -- for myself, I can't see...

Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

That's different than what SDL is doing... APs do have to make a reservation on a 1-for-1 basis (i.e. 1 annual pass can make 1 reservation) but there doesn't appear to be a cost associated with the reservation (that I've seen, anyway). If they did this, I'd expect they'd kill any local traffic...

The Island in Pigeon Forge doesn't qualify (to me, at least) as an amusement park - it's a restaurant/retail/hotel space that has a ferris wheel, an arcade, a carousel, and one of those "trains" that hauls kids around a mall. The rest of Pigeon Forge has a few more arcades, go cart tracks, etc...

Would you visit Walt Disney World with these health-based operational restrictions in place?

I was up that way this past weekend -- the Great Smoky Mountain National Park was gorgeous. While Pigeon Forge was largely open, I'm not sure it qualifies as an "Amusement Park". There are a number of attractions there like the ferris wheel, go carts, arcades, those people sling shot things...

    WDW Reopening Estimates

No doubt. But first it's about reducing the rate of losses.

Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

Things started opening up on the 24th of April with restaurants open on the 27th, so we're pretty much 2 weeks in so far. According to the State, cases and deaths have overall been trending downward since the 27th April. For info see: https://dph.georgia.gov/covid-19-daily-status-report (the...

    WDW Reopening Estimates

Shanghai AP's do have to get a reservation, but they're extending the AP's by the length of time the park was closed plus the length of time that restriction is in place.

Would you visit Walt Disney World with these health-based operational restrictions in place?

I'm not sure. Probably leaning towards going, but have concerns about how restrictions impact wait times. Assuming they're open at 1/2 capacity, if they're not able to operate everything and the attractions/rides are running at 1/2 capacity, it feels like the wait times would still be as long as...

News Disney Springs Begins Phased Reopening on May 20

Here in Atlanta too. People were "tailgating" in restaurant parking lots; I know one place had an hour and a half wait to get in and they ended up closing between 7p and 8p because they ran out of food.

News Reopening Walt Disney World - an official statement

Why do you think that? They've already told us that passes will be extended for the time the parks are closed. Shanghai DL is further additionally extending passes for the time the parks are operating on restrictions. I'd assume the domestic parks would do something similar. (although nothing...

Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

There's a difference between masks being required at Disney Springs and in the parks. Generally speaking Disney Springs is not an "all day" largely being out in the heat with no air-conditioning like the parks are. Disney Springs is much closer to a mall and has a lot of third parties running...

Except for the CARES act stimulus checks of $600/wk as of today. That was a separate allocation from congress.

    WDW Reopening Estimates

Mine is as well... sort of. But there's currently a lot of concern about parents and their children. If kids are back in school in the fall, then we'll likely bring everyone back to the office. If not, most people can still work remotely (albeit not necessarily optimally).

Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

I think the kicker is if it's a government mandate or a recommendation. At the moment, at the federal level it's a recommendation. Some localities have a mandate. I suspect that Disney will want to open as soon as they feel they can, subject to government regulations. I don't see them holding...

News Reopening Walt Disney World - an official statement

Really? Why do you think that? I was expecting the ferry-- while it does hold more people they are open to the outside, and if they ran all three they could limit the number of people per ferry. If they're concerned with spreading things, people touch a LOT of stuff in the buses and are still...

That phrasing is normal; the business likely has been working on multiple plans, but nothing is yet final.
