D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event—Coming to Anaheim Next August

It's a very, very old rumor that's been bouncing around the internet for at least 2 decades. It's an old enough rumor that dropping that Big Al figure into the DVC Kiosk feels like a deliberate troll by somebody aware of it.

D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event—Coming to Anaheim Next August

Princess and the Frog particularly underperformed at the Japanese box office compared to other contemporaneous Disney releases. Let's leave it at that.

D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event—Coming to Anaheim Next August

Nothing's a done deal until construction has started and even then plans can change (Epcot). My personal commentary on this - it's a nail that Disney would like hammered down. OLC would like to continue to have a productive working relationship with Disney - especially a Disney that's willing...

D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event—Coming to Anaheim Next August

TDL Splash is scheduled for FY30. Different IP from US Parks. Tokyo wants to get through the Space Mountain relocation and associated work before they commence the project (can't have two mountains closed at once). But it's a done deal.

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

An interesting little nugget in the Disneyland Forward documentation was that Disney has used the company that owns the Lake Nona site (Dynamic Campus, LLC) to buy out some of the owners of land they held under long term leases as a 1031 exchange (reinvesting proceeds of other land sales)...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

You haven't been to WDW lately if you don't think Disney has a take it or leave it attitude towards guests. I personally think this is a responsible change on Disney's part. They're free to set guidelines, as long as they are clearly communicated and enforced consistently.

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Except they did take that one on last time, and won. What's a $50m lawsuit when it's threatening a $2bn a year business?

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Plus taking it out of the hands of front line CMs. I hate to say it, but GR at WDW is very, very cliquey. Back when I did the CP we all had one friend who had a friend and guess what, they had a GAC.

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

I think it's exactly like a Main Entrance Pass. Yourself + 3 guests of any choice, or Yourself + the number of dependent relatives.

WDW to Build New North Entrance to Property

I just noticed this thread was started over a decade ago. Obviously a *lot* has happened in that decade, but it's crazy how this has become a generational project for WDW and the district. Especially as Horizon West has continued to be built out.

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

Which the developer agreements did exactly what they were meant to do - at best, lock in the existing development rights. At worst, muddy up the waters so much it tied the districts hands until cooler heads prevailed.

RCES still could, but not at the rates Disney has currently got locked in. The district could also take those services back/outsource them to somebody else.

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

A whole bunch of district functions - think engineering and design type roles - are outsourced to RCES. That way Disney could share them with their own internal resources. For instance, RCES are responsible for the design of road signage on behalf of the District. This allows for the same...

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

The funniest part of this for me is Gilzean and Garcia clearly being blindsighted while this is happening up in Tallahassee. “Oh wow I can’t believe the Governor gave me a second job!”

Close enough - he’s been friendly with Disney in the past. Got to thread the needle of DeSantis donors that they can work with.

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

The new board chair is the CEO of Bags - a major Disney vendor. The new district administrator has worked closely with their lobbyists in the past. It seems like the plan right now is to make the current situation work. Disney has reserved the right to reopen the federal case, while giving up...

News Bruce Vaughn Returns to Disney as Co-Lead of Walt Disney Imagineering

I think the problem runs a bit deeper than that. WDI is a service provider to other parts of the company. Line of Business is the client. Yes, they have a bit more power to dictate than most (because they have a captive client), but if the requirements and budget are Marriott, you get Marriott...
