I had exactly the same experience. When I checked into the Caribbean Beach several years ago I was told that there was a beach on which we were encouraged to use the hammocks and deckchairs if we wanted, we could watch Illuminations in the distance each night, but that going into the lake was...

For now I'm not aware of them doing anything other than put up more signage warning specifically about alligators and now these fences. What I would say is, in the short-term at least, there might well be some other changes made while they figure out if there are more permanent things that need...

I think exactly the same. The only problematic thing I can see from Disney's standpoint is enforcing the "don't feed the animals" policy. I've seen people throwing food, snacks like crackers and biscuits, from the Kilimanjaro Safari trucks so they're up against it, the message just doesn't get...

They might only be temporary measures but nothing they do now or in the future should come as a surprise to anyone.

The article cites "park staff" so Cast Members. I'd imagine CM's that work on the boats on that lagoon, whether on the ones that transport guests back and forth from the resorts to the Magic Kingdom or the lifeguards that patrol the water, would have a good view of the water-side of the...

I'd imagine this will be investigated and, if it is determined that higher-ups ignored warnings about guests feeding alligators from the bungalows, heads should and will roll. I am sceptical about the lawyer from San Diego's story though.

Being in the UK and seeing the reaction here to what has happened, I agree with this. Not that I disagree with much of what @flynnibus has said on this subject, I agree with the vast majority of it, but some of the coverage here has been awful, bordering on dangerous. I've posted here already...

No one with any degree of common sense here has said that they should be able to prevent that. What they can do, and what they've already begun doing with the signs they've begun to put up on their beaches, is take steps to ensure that guests on their property have no reason or excuse not to...

No but it's not really relevant; the discussion isn't how do you prevent all alligator attacks in the state of Florida, the discussion pertains to Walt Disney World. I think that's part of the problem with the discussion, you seem to have taken concerns about the threat posed by alligators on...

How many of these reports were actually made and subsequently actually blown off? That's the question I'm asking because everything I've seen and experienced in twenty years of going to WDW is the complete opposite to what these stories are alleging. I was told by a CM in May that they...

Doesn't tally with what I witnessed on the two occasions I've seen alligators removed from an area of a park or hotel by Disney staff in the past. One of those was from Splash Moutain and the staff were completely methodical and professional. Some of the guests around us were asking questions...

I can understand why some would take that approach but I would still feel comfortable going on the beaches myself, just not near the waterline. I haven't and wouldn't go into the water and that's what I'm sure Disney will be ensuring now, that no one does go into that lagoon or any other such...

This was my response to what has happened. Seemed obvious to me but I was told by another poster that it wasn't a good idea, that we already live in a society when everything is handed to people when they should just go and look it up. I agree with everything you've said here.

Safety is taken care of at the Grand Floridian, as it is at every Disney resort. There are signs around the perimeter of the lagoon on the beaches of each hotel, Cast Members will prevent you going into the water if they see you.

I've been visiting for twenty years and hae seen countless aligators both on and off Disney property in that time, so no it won't stop me returning. And if I had children I absolutely wouldn't let them near a natural body of water such as Seven Seas Lagoon; I took notice of the warning provided...

You're welcome to take issue with that if you choose. I don't see any problem with providing a little more information that could potentially stop anyone else getting hurt. It took less than thirty seconds for a CM to tell me that entry into any natural body of water on Disney property was...

You might be aware of it, clearly others aren't. I am not assigning blame to any person or party here, I am saying that there are steps Disney can take to ensure that everyone staying on property is aware of the possible dangers posed by the local habitat and so avoid a tragedy like this...

I agree. Sadly it would seem that not enough are aware of the truth in this statement and they need to be What has become alarmingly clear in the wake of this is the lack of awareness amongst some of the potential dangers posed by the local wildlife in Florida. Just listening to some of the...

I thought so. And thanks for the photo in your later post. Leads me to wonder why, if there are well-lit areas in which to watch the fireworks from the beach, would you instead go to an area that is "pitch black with no lighting". Disney really needs to provide information to guests arriving...

Maybe someone can refresh my memory but is all lighting on the beaches dimmed or turned off entirely for the firework shows? From what I remember of my stay at Wilderness, the lighting remained on but I'm wondering now if I'm wrong.
