    Travesty...spoiler alert

But it's not Disney's story. Almost none of the Disney movies are Disney's stories. They're almost all pre-existing fairy tales or myths or based on public domain literature of some kind. Even The Lion King is largely ripped out of Hamlet. Pity that the same company that keeps extending...

Do you want to build a new resort?

Those are certainly challenges. The good news is that Disney is building with pollution (Shanghai's air is a concern). And when it comes down to it, all Disney needs is for a little patch of Brazil with high quality water. Cleaning water takes time, but it's do-able in small areas. As for...

Do you want to build a new resort?

Brace yourselves for a wealth of possibly nonsensical input: Location: Australia and Dubai have been suggested. They have their benefits, but from a realism standpoint, a new resort is at least ten years out (Shanghai will need to be open before another resort really hits the drawing boards)...

Have ESPN’s Profits Obscured A Mediocre Return On Disney’s Big Acquisitions?

The fan reaction to Marvel is actually pretty hilarious about five years later. It's incredible how undervalued Marvel was. Kudos to Iger on that deal. It could very well be his ESPN. Problem: after the expiration of the contract, Disney would have had pretty tight control over all of...

Have ESPN’s Profits Obscured A Mediocre Return On Disney’s Big Acquisitions?

My take: analysts don't know jack. Marvel was a steal. $4 billion for an absolute box office powerhouse which has plenty left in the tank. (Toss in merchandising and TV, and this sounds like a no-brainer in hindsight.) Lucasfilm is a recent buyout, but it appears that Disney wants Star Wars...

What new Pixar property would you use?

True. It would be hard to do Up as with much more than a re-telling of things we already saw in the movie. The Incredibles' versatility really wins this one.

    Value Imagineering - DHS

Close LMA, Backlot Tour, Jack Sparrow thing, HISTA playground, Rock'n' Roller Coaster (+$5) + E-Ticket in place of RNR (Crimestoppers?) (-$5) New show for Beauty and the Beast (something that reflects the Roaring 20's or 30's) (-$1) + E-Ticket coaster for Star Wars area (-$5) + Millenium...

What new Pixar property would you use?

It's close between The Incredibles and Up. Both are amazing movies. I think The Incredibles has a lot of ride possibilities, while Up has potential for a D-Ticket dark ride that could really breathe life into Hollywood Studios right where it's weakest (family dark rides).

    Finishing the Fantasyland overhaul

Show building showing is bad show. (Wow. I abused that word.) However, that doesn't change the fact that Universal is doing more with less.

    Finishing the Fantasyland overhaul

If I recall correctly, Universal Creative gets things done at roughly the same quality in shorter periods of time for substantially smaller budgets. Their model is built around efficiency. If WDI were to restructure, we could see more expansion more quickly without Disney spending an extra...

    Great Movie Ride scene replacement?

This would appear to remove Alien. I'm okay with removing Alien under the right context (i.e. a complete gutting of the ride in which the standards for "great" are really, really great). Alien is not only a great movie, but it is the only representation of sci-fi and the only real horror movie...

How would you spend Tokyo Disney Resort's $5 billion?

I'm one for plussing before expansion. At a certain point, you'll end up with too many rides. This is a pretty great idea. Fits the era. A couple of hang-ups in that it's a lesser-known franchise and it would be the second shoot-em-up in the park. However, I like it. (I consider Midway...

How would you spend Tokyo Disney Resort's $5 billion?

Semi-vague $5 billion plan for WDW: - $750 million for Magic Kingdom - $1.175 billion for EPCOT - $1.24 billion for Hollywood Studios - $1.6 billion for Animal Kingdom - $235 million to kick around - if a major park goes over budget; else, upgrades for water parks, Downtown Disney...

    An Idea for Tommorrowland Speedway

It would be awesome, but this would be extremely costly; pushing nine figures. Best option is to raze it. Realistically, Disney wants a bigger princess presence at the parks. The Speedway borders Fantasyland and is a beefy parcel of land which is still inside the berm. Perfect real-estate...

    YOUR vision for New Fantasyland

Here goes my Fantasyland expansion within some degree of reason. It's expensive, but stays within Disney's bounds of things they would actually build (i.e. there are meet and greets and I'm not building a ride based on something out-there). The no-brainers: - Gut Toontown completely, and level...

Why Hollywood Studios is being rebuilt

Then I misspoke. The priority has always been to make as much money as possible. They're just doing that with a short-term focus now (i.e. manipulate guests to spend money now while not expanding the parks) as opposed to the long-term focus of past times (i.e. expand the parks so guests will...

Why Hollywood Studios is being rebuilt

The goal was always to make money. You can't be a public company and have a first priority that isn't money. The difference is in money-making strategies. One says that people will naturally spend money on products built around high-quality, and another says that people will spend money on a...

Imagineer Tom Fitzgerald takes over the creative direction of Epcot

It has been brought to my attention in recent hours that Tom Fitzgerald was behind such affronts to EPCOT Center as Horizons and the Walter Kronkite Spaceship Earth. The guy's got talent. Disney just needs to give him the financial backing necessary to make Imagination good again.

Your favourite attraction in each park and the reason why

MK: Haunted Mansion - It is the quintessential dark ride. It's funny, it's creepy, and it's deceptively simple. My only complaint is the new queue. Take that out, and it's a perfect attraction in every way. Honorable Mentions: Pirates of the Caribbean (a very close second in the wake of...
