Disney plans to build a massive dynamic art installation on International Drive

Found this funny from the initial press release: Americans will literally make up units of measure before using the metric system..

News Tomorrowland Speedway and Walt Disney World Railroad to be impacted by TRON construction at the Magic Kingdom

The trains will be completely enclosed in a tunnel, so theoretically they could co-exist. However there is currently scaffolding placed ontop of the future track bed, preventing them from pouring the roof slab, so that will need to be removed before they can wrap up the tunnel. Figure 1-2...

News Tron coaster coming to the Magic Kingdom

So it looks like they can't even finish the train tunnel until after that scaffolding is taken down. So even at the absolute earliest we probably won't see the WDW RR until a month after that.

You'd be surprised how high the wind loads can be. I believe in this area of Florida it's around 55lbs/sf. So judging from my 30 second google earth takeoff, that could be over 3 million lbs of wind load. Especially with a relatively thin structure, I'd assume most of the steel supports for the...

News Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser coming to Walt Disney World 2021

This is basically fantasy camp for Star Wars fans, and they should be advertising it as such. For those who don't know, MLB teams run 'fantasy camps' in early winter down at their Spring Training sites, its usually in the $5k range, but includes a week of lodging, meals, custom uniforms (that...

Lightning Lane at Walt Disney World

That is correct. My strategy is to get them every two hours and have them stacked for the afternoon. I've had 6-7 of them lined up for all after 4pm at MK. However you must keep waiting every two hours for your next selection until you redeem your last one, then you can look for a new one right...

    Rope Drop Timing

I haven't been to DLR in almost 12 years. What is the current rope drop procedure? From what I can gather from videos it appears there are different groups lined up on Main Street depending on when you get through the gate. I'll be on NY time, so I'll plan on getting there early. If I get to...

News Tron coaster coming to the Magic Kingdom

Don't get me wrong, I agree there is no way a project of this size should have gotten to ground breaking with an issue like this. That's why I initially doubted that it was true, and unless I missed something it's still nothing more than a rumor. However, I don't think it's completely out of the...

News Tron coaster coming to the Magic Kingdom

As a civil engineer I completely agree. However, I've watched plenty of less-than-competent construction crews do things that completely defy logic so I wouldn't think it's out of the question. I can also see them not catching the issue with Tron if it is an off-the-shelf design from Shanghai.

News Tron coaster coming to the Magic Kingdom

The ties are all generally the same size, an inch or two wouldn't make a big difference. What I could see happening is if they significantly rebuilt the roadbed and weren't paying attention by how much. An extra 9-12" of sub-base could definitely cause this and may not have been apparent to the...

Why Do People Prefer Indiana Jones to Dinosaur?

The queue and pre-show absolutely blow Dinosaur out of the water. Plus, if you're a fan of the movies, you already feel connected to the story. At Dinosaur it's some random guy you just met trying to steal a dinosaur you've likely never heard of. There's no emotional connection there like...

News Cavalcades to remain alongside full parades at Magic Kingdom as new 'Disney Adventures Friends Cavalcade' will debut spring 2022

I completely agree with cavalcades over parades. Hearing the music, waiting for the float to pass by in a minute or two and getting on with your day is so much better than having to stake out a spot before the parade, stay for the entire parade and then being caught in a sea of people afterwards.

News Disney Very Merriest After Hours

I may be in the minority here, but I actually like the numerous small cavalcades throughout the day over a parade. No waiting around in a crowd for a 20 minute parade. You hear the music, get to the parade route, watch the float go by, and get on with your day. Alot more streamlined of an...

News Disney Very Merriest After Hours

haha yep. I had someone try to tell me that the price was justified and not comparable to the 2019 price because it was an 'After Hours' event and not a 'Christmas Party'. I didn't realize those words double the value of the event. I'm glad they finally (hopefully) hit that point, I was...

News Disney Very Merriest After Hours

Yep, our 4 tickets (2 adults, 2 kids) cost us a total of $411 after taxes in 2019, so that was our plan. We slept in, spent the day at the pool, walked into MK at 4, used our pre-scheduled 3 fastpasses and then enjoyed the party til they kicked us out. Now it would cost us $890 for the same...

News Disney Very Merriest After Hours

Does anyone know if they pipe in the Christmas Party fireworks music to the GF viewing area like they do for the normal MK fireworks? I would love to go, but I'm not paying these absurd prices.

Lightning Lane at Walt Disney World

Yes, although the app might act up when you try to do two different things for the same party on different devices. That's why they usually suggest against trying to get a boarding group on multiple devices. However these don't go nearly as fast as the Virtual Queue, so no reason you can't do...

Lightning Lane at Walt Disney World

In retrospect I think this is the way to do it. You do run the risk of JC or Splash running out by 3-4pm though, depending on how busy it is, but booking the in-demand ones first resulted in a lot of downtime waiting for my next window to open.

Lightning Lane at Walt Disney World

This was my experience with it last week: First of all, having a large party sucks, I ended up paying $193 after taxes for a party of 9. I went to MK on Tuesday (10/19) afternoon and decided to try it out. It worked well and we were able to knock out Pirates, BTMR, HM, Jungle Cruise, Winnie The...
