Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

This is the box office thread. A movie that cost $200 million making $200 million after six weeks in the theater isn't a cause for celebration. It just isn't.

Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

Gross revenue is only one part of the equation, and it's pretty meaningless here. Disney spent more making those films than it made at the box office which resulted in record losses. Many of the other studios don't need to be the "top dog" in order to be profitable because they manage their...

Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

It's already hit $100 million worldwide so it's well on it's way to turning a profit since it's budget was at $70 million. It's only $2 million behind Wish in domestic box office. Trolls Band Together is almost at $200 million worldwide which is about $25 million more than Wish. Both those...

Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

Migration is trending up so it appears to have legs. I wouldn't count it out. Plus, it only had a 70M budget so it won't take nearly as much to break even.

Wish (Walt Disney Animation - November 2023)

I am probably the only person that liked Chicken Little. It was silly fun.

Wish (Walt Disney Animation - November 2023)

No one says it's completely gone, but something (or many things) have moved the needle to make their audience not want to see Disney movies. Sure, other movies have bombed, but when most of your movies have bombed, there is a pattern that can't be ignored. Even the two that made money or broke...

Wish (Walt Disney Animation - November 2023)

I think the point is that people have lost trust in the Disney brand. Even if Wish is "wholesome," people aren't going to blindly spend money on seeing it. The audience has been burned (some by Disney politics, some by mediocre movies, some by franchise fatigue, some by the constant live action...

Wish (Walt Disney Animation - November 2023)

People aren't mad at you but are worried about you. You are irrationally upset and obsessive about an animated movie tanking. I am sure it's something you can't control, but it isn't a healthy for you to come to these threads and get upset with people for posting something you don't want to...

Park Attendance goes down, so Prices go up?

It's the Disney way. It's called MAGIC thinking.

Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

The original Parent Trap is still one of my favorite movies. That ranch house was amazing! I read that they still get requests for house plans for it, but it was actually just a set.

Wish (Walt Disney Animation - November 2023)

Just noticed that Wish is now ahead of Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken by $4 million so there's that.

Trolls is in its second week so I don't think them beating them by 2 million is a bragging point.

Wish (Walt Disney Animation - November 2023)

Ultimately, there is no one cause why this movie and most of Disney's offerings failed in 2023. I think all of these factors converged to create the perfect storm for Disney. Whatever the reason, the overall results are disastrous. And because there are multiple reasons, it won't be easy to fix...

Captain Marvel 2: "The Marvels" -- Nov 10, 2023 Theatrical Release

I have no interest in superhero movies in general. It's just not my jam. The only ones I have ever watched and liked were the Guardian of the Galaxy movies. Even though I assume they are part of the whole Marvel Universe, they worked as standalone films. My two besties are really into them...

Is attendance really down at WDW this or…

One dining advantage for Universal is City Walk. There are tons of good restaurants at varying price points just a few steps outside both their parks. We tried the Minions Cafe this trip and really enjoyed it. Liked the food and loved the theming!
