News Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

It could be. The big problem with the river and island as relaxing space is that you still have to PLAN to enjoy it. Whether that's just jumping in line, or planning it around your LL returns or what have you, you can't enjoy the space spontaneously. If they can build a relaxing space that...

News Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

That's an important distinction: they don't change things that are popular, no matter what level of malice you assign to their decision making. They can't replace Pirates with Cars because it's still too popular. The other side of that argument is that they MUST replace things that are not...

Disneyland's river had to stay, in part, because you need water circulating and moving in order for it not to smell like stagnant water.

They always involve closing things, because that's the nature of adding new attractions: demand gets shifted elsewhere and the attractions at the bottom suffer a steeper falloff in visitation. It's the reason I keep saying the parks don't need more capacity, just better utilization.

Is attendance really down at WDW this or…

oh no! The investors are worried? Certainly they asked questions about Disney's pricing strategy, their customer satisfaction ratings and the success of integrating more IP into the park... right? Hopefully the investors get to the bottom of this!

Maybe... But Disneyland is still mostly packed with people. The hotels are near 100% capacity this week for D23. It's too crowded for me.

Is attendance really down at WDW this or…

I don't think it's totally unexpected though. The market has been prepped for bad news (with the jobs report) and fishing for additional recession signals. Softening theme park attendance (at Disney and Uni) are definitely in that category. I am starting to wonder if they will try to postpone...

Despite having access to Disneyland, I don't go all that much at all anymore. And I took am snding more times doing cruises and beach resorts... For years the parks have been too crowded and too chaotic to be relaxing. It's not a surprise to me at all that the audience at large is turning away...

What incompetence? The fact that their costs are increasing faster than revenue? It's funny to hear so many "fans" advocate for lesser spending. Well here's hoping they start cutting more soon in order to prove to the street how smart they really are.

Personally, I don't either. But when you see a 10% decrease in revenue across the street, you can't be thinking the only factors on revenue are internal.

So what's the excuse for Universal's revenue decreasing some 10%? Apparently their business is suffering far more than Disney's. Is their management just more inept?

You can't ignore external factors on attendance, no matter how much you want to.

Is attendance really down at WDW this or…

Not really. Strong US dollar making international travel cheaper, and of course the Olympics are usually a big draw.

So which is it that your advocating for? Shareholder Value or Customer Value? Shouldn't be a hard question.

Is attendance really down at WDW this or…

No, costs increase with additional attendance. The parks don't NEED high attendance. This thinking is outdated. Don't make me go pull out the quotes from the Six Flags CEO again.
