Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

Yeah... understood. I'm actually not the one advocating that there is an objective side to the reviews coming out. And generally, I'm ok with people just admitting that they liked Splash more. I get the whole nostalgia thing and there's nothing wrong with that. There is a point though where it...

Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

This is pretty good advice actually. Let's not pretend that people with Brer in their user name are actually giving an objective opinion.

They absolutely did. Sorry we have to disagree on this. Oh so the story of splash required some insider knowledge of the story and character motivations that wasn't presented in the actual ride? That's interesting.

Of course they felt recycled because they were. But I am starting to understand the reality being that we have passed America Sings being part of personal experience on this board. Memories fade pretty quickly I guess. Depends on what is trying to be conveyed. I think the bayou scene on Tiana...

Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

That's not a modern change. That goes back to 1955. Look up the George Whitney memo. These attractions were also mostly devoid of any real story. They were just setup as vignettes or parts of scenes. There's nothing wrong with an attraction being setup this way, and you can certainly make the...

Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

I don't think the mountain itself will last another 35 years. They spent millions completely rebuilding the Matterhorn from the inside out, and I don't see them doing that here. Watching Tokyo take down their old Space Mountain makes me even less sure about Disneyland skyline of the future. I...

Yeah I agree. I think they're going to be fine. Probably not, at least for the people that grew up with Splash. It's hard to shake that childhood nostalgia. But for the new generations that grow up with Tiana? They will feel just as deep, if not a deeper connection to this ride.

Exactly: they were set dressing. Scenery. They had no relevance to the story. They weren't even purpose built for the attraction. Just recycled from America Sings.

Maybe dislike is too strong a description. I was around in the 70s and 80s though and definitely feel they were overplayed for a long time. There was a distinct period in Disney history where (More AA's = Better attraction) was just understood to be true... until it wasn't. Case in point: the...

There's plenty in the ride that comes from Princess and the Frog. You just gotta dig a little deeper to find it I guess... You think the ride is going to be popular when it opens up?

News The Walt Disney Company Board of Directors Extends Robert A. Iger’s Contract as CEO Through 2026

Eisner's biggest flaw was thinking that Disney *meant* something beyond just the name. He understood the brand and wanted to protect it. It's a problem for the fan community to try to reconcile that fact with the fact that things didn't work out well for him. They deride Iger for buying all...

Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

There has been no objectivity really in most of the critiques. You want to believe that having fewer AA's by the numbers is a downgrade, but if you don't care for AA's at all, then subjectively it's an upgrade. It's all subjective.

Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

It's not a bad ride at all. Bare minimum it's on par with Splash. People just didn't want to give it a chance. It's easy to pick a ride apart if you want to. I could go off on how thin the "story" of Small World is, or the blank walls on Haunted Mansion or "dead" space on Pirates. Really just...

So what is the real test? We seem to agree the new ride will be around for a good 10 to 20 years, so... ?

Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

If the maintenance issues really were related to the changes in OSHA restrictions, it wasn't really a problem they created at all. If they were going to have to spend millions to make the ride safer for techs to access show pieces and lighting, it wasn't ever going to make sense to sinks that...

You can have great attractions without story or animatronics. The Log Ride at Knott's is also a great attraction, even if it doesn't have singing animals. A lot of it comes down to preference and a large dose of nostalgia. But change is inevitable.

Sorry you feel that way. Hopefully in the next 10 or 20 years you will come to appreciate it. ETA: I mean the ride... not my take.

My favorites tend to be those bastions of thorough story telling and animatronics such as the Disneyland Railroad and the Mark Twain.
