Bob Iger Stepping Down, Bob Chapek New CEO

Of course they care about the long game... Why do you think Disney+ exists? You think Chapek is spending 33 billion on new content to make a quick buck?

They follow it because it keeps working.

Bob Iger Stepping Down, Bob Chapek New CEO

Yeah but again... If there were signs that something wasn't working, Disney would still have the opportunity to change. They are reactionary. Things won't stay the same for 10-15 years.

Bob Iger Stepping Down, Bob Chapek New CEO

Probably for reasons other than what you're insinuating. If it was purely just personal politics why wouldn't they fire Kevin Fiege as well? On the flip side, why would they have fired Geoffry Morrell if they really wanted to change direction?

Bob Iger Stepping Down, Bob Chapek New CEO

Seriously though, if things are so bad why do the guests keep going? Why do they keep acting against their own best interests? You want to be mad at the board for not listening to the guests, but everytime they go to the parks, they are literally telling the board it is still worth the money...

Bob Iger Stepping Down, Bob Chapek New CEO

The shareholders sued to prevent Ovitz's golden parachute. There was a messy trial that aired a lot of dirty laundry. Very public. This was of course right after he lost wells, and was fueding with Katzenberg. The Ovitz thing was directly related to wanting a clear succession path, and that's...

Bob Iger Stepping Down, Bob Chapek New CEO

At the point that the shareholders started to turn on Eisner, he held on for another 7 years. We are nowhere near that point with Chapek yet.

Bob Iger Stepping Down, Bob Chapek New CEO

If they are ignoring the community, it's because it makes the most business sense to do so. I'll leave that up to you to decide if that means the community is out of touch or whether their complaints just don't matter. Most of the complaints directed at Chapak, for increasing pricing and...

Bob Iger Stepping Down, Bob Chapek New CEO

At this point, he's been in the role for two years. He has experience with all aspects of Disney operations (studios, parks, consumer products, Disney+). Bringing in an outsider at this point with the hope that they would change up everything would just be disruptive for no real gain.

Orlando Becoming East Coast Headquarters for Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products

Except for some roles that were identified as needing to be on site for park operations, most of the salaried cast for DPEP in So Cal is included in that. Basically all of the roles that were being identified for moving to Florida. Disney is also chipping in some extra money to outfit home...

    Rumor Future of the Matterhorn?

Technically yes, depending on how you want to define superstructure. The framing was done in steel, but the mountain shell itself was built with wood. They started replacing the wood framing back in the 1999s though. The problem isn't with the steel structure itself, it's with the concrete and...

Orlando Becoming East Coast Headquarters for Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products

Yeah but this statement highlights some of the pivoting that is now happening on how the success of the streaming platforms was being gauged. Netflix spent a king's ransom on new content, because they knew they were being held hostage by IP rights, and as long as the sub counts kept climbing...

Orlando Becoming East Coast Headquarters for Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products

Saw the news that Netflix is laying off people. I had heard thru the grapevine that some of the office spaces that were being freed up by DPEP people moving to Florida, were being assigned to Disney+ production companies... and now I'm wondering if the pause on moving CMs to Florida, is in part...

    Disneyland thoughts post-Genie

This hasn't really been true anywhere. Lots of places still hiring and lots of open shifts being unfilled... Everywhere. And we're not just talking about ride operators making close to minimum wage. You need machinists, sound, lighting and computer techs and procurement specialists (also note...

Orlando Becoming East Coast Headquarters for Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products

I don't disagree that WDI should probably be expanding in Florida, but that idea doesn't negate the fact that there is still a huge pool of talent, within the entertainment industry as a whole, within California. Locking yourself out of that market is a huge mistake. It seems to me, that Disney...

    Splash Mountain Announcement for Disneyland

People don't pay $200 just for the attractions.... they are spending that money on a day out with their family. Taking pictures, watching shows, eating snacks and meeting characters. It's a whole package. That's probably why it's easy to accept all these supposedly unacceptable issues. I guess...

    Splash Mountain Announcement for Disneyland

So you have some experience in how people weigh maintenance issues against the overall enjoyment of the park. And just based on the above, it's easy to see that a lot of people wouldn't want that, and would be rather put off if the whole park had to close due to maintenance issues. At the...
