Yeah we have to wait and see for all we know this is a fluke and the next Pixar movie will join the billion dollar club. Could this be the start of a trend? Absolutely but we won't know till later.
Could be ride related could be nothing. I only say that because outside of the new films the uploads for Disney vevo don't really have a pattern. You had most of your classic princess stuff up for years. They also only put up Peter Pan songs earlier this year. They even put a singalong for...
Nah it did better with the Lightyear name then it would have as an original IP. Speaking financially. Critically maybe it would have done better disconnected from Toy Story, however if you change Buzz Lightyear to Lunar Larry the movie still has the same issues.
It starts off well but after...
I think barring a box office miracle Disney and Pixar will lose money on this film. Also I had a feeling it would struggle to reach Solos numbers domestically as well.
It's counter programming so I dont think the audiences will ovelap also I really think Top Gun brought the older crowd back. Personally Elvis is a wait for me since I'm not a fan of this directors other films. Seeing the black phone though.
Honestly if I didn't have AMC A-list I would have just waited to see this on Disney plus. It Honestly didn't intrest me in buying a ticket but since I already paid for my subscription it was a might as well see it decision.
It always bums me out that Solo didn't break even it was a fun little movie that I really enjoyed. But yeah both films had some issues bringing the crowds in.
What hurt the box office wasn't one thing. It was the death by a thousand cuts. The kiss may have hurt it, Tim not voicing Buzz may have hurt it, it being a spin-off/ Toy Story fatigue. Other things could have as well. Now one of these things won't cost a movie 30 million off opening weekend...
Tim Allen's Buzz voice would have worked fine with this movie. I get they wanted Evans so he could play the straight man to balance out with his team members quirks. But Tim's Buzz is the Toy version of this movies character it would make sense if they sounded the same.
I don't think it's a call out to the Pixar and Lightyear. He's just saying that in general if you try to please everyone it can harm the creative process.
Anything is possible however on top of Gru coming in two weeks to take the animated family movie spot there's also the fact that this movie will be on Disney plus shortly after the 45 day theatrical window. People may decide to wait.
We as fans don't owe Disney our support. It's a buisness, if Disney dosen't sell their movie well to the audience this is the result, a movie that underperformed. This is not the first movie this has happened to and it won't be the last. My "support" begins and ends when I buy a ticket to a...
The twist did change what the Toy Story set up for what the relationship between two characters. Although to be honest so did Buzz Lightyear of Star Command.
As for my thoughts on the movie itself it was alright. It's not one I'll rush back to see but I don't regret seeing it. Also chock me up as someone who would have enjoyed the movie more if Tim was still voicing Buzz.
