Food wise they are only distributing for 3 days a week now 11-2pm due to waived days. Just in the 1 of 5 elementary schools here there are 86 children who were getting backsacks (food for Saturday and Sunday meals sent home each Friday), that distribution has been paused for 2 weeks because they haven't figured out how to get them to the kids. Apparently they can't just give out addresses for delivery :(

Here, they started with distribution at the schools (which if you can't get your kid to school.. that's a problem). Then, teachers were getting sick... (one down the road died this week). The daily mail went from 1 staff infected, to like 5 in 3-4 days. They stopped distribution at the schools and instead now are using the bus routes to distribute meals. Using the buses is a far better way to reach the kids.. but I don't know the logistics of how they are doing it. I think they largely switched to packaged meals instead of prepared meals.

"On March 31, Whole Foods employees will call in sick to demand paid leave for all workers who stay home or self-quarantine during the crisis, free coronavirus testing for all employees, and hazard pay of double the current hourly wage for employees who show up to work during the pandemic."

Once it's there.. you no longer have a steady state. You're skipping right to the point of "too late" and ignoring the point of bringing up entropy and steady states.

To keep it simple for the lay... When the actual infection footprint is not know - getting 100 strangers from out of town together is far more risky than getting 100 local people together. I'd do the math for people.. but since they don't grab onto the simplified view, the math isn't going to be any more convincing to them.

About the boled, nice:
How you look at schools as anything less than Walt Disney World tells me you are out of touch with the Public Education System in the US or most cultures. 40 to a classroom, 40 plus schools in a county, Orange County for Example has over 200,000 students, from cultures all over the world often just staying for a short while with families visiting from all over the world. So please stop being so argumentative about moot points. When Walt Disney World opens and when the schools open are about the same level of safety. It is a moot point.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but I wonder if an initial re-opening could involve only local or state passholders?
I did bring up the idea of a “soft opening” of the parks or at least 1 park a few days or weeks before ramping up fully. Keep the hotels closed and try just the parks with the new procedures in place. Then if you need to shut things down or there is a glitch you have less crowds and also less people flying in to stay.

That is great! A few days out of service and a nice batch of work for people who really need jobs right now. It is great that they are asking for more in this time, but not the best way to go about it.

Double pay? Someone is either shooting for the skies or seriously delusional.

People visiting for a week at a time enroll and goto school? You've missed the point entirely.

Go have fun at WDW... I'll be watching you from here.

I'm sorry, I won't read anything from vice ;) ;)

Until there is a vaccine, yes. There should be no opening of theaters, amusement parks or any places that are based on large gatherings. You assume I think schools should be opened in the fall. I don't unless there is already a vaccine. I simply said that a school was a lower risk than an amusement park but it is still a risk that would result in an increase in the virus. Which is not warranted given the inability to treat anyone with the virus even exists. Remember even if you magically had enough ICU beds for everyone in the country and enough doctors and nurse to treat everyone you would still be seeing people die from it. It kills regardless of whether you get medical treatment or not.

I disagree. If you can't open theatres or amusement parks then you can't allow people on airplanes either. You are also assuming that no treatment will help. Hopefully something that they are trying with existing drugs/treatments will work to at least lessen the length and/or severity.

As more people become infected, more people also become immune. Until the serology test is available, we don't know how many people have already had COVID-19 and are immune for some period of time.

Nobody knows if any of the vaccines currently in development will be effective. Hopefully they are but if they aren't it could be 2 years or more for a vaccine. You can't close all of these segments of the economy for 2 years or more.

Finally, on "large gatherings" in general with respect to this virus, there needs to be research and analysis done to categorize different "large gatherings." 200 people in a night club is likely to be a far bigger risk of spread than 80,000 people in a football stadium. In a nightclub, one infected person can be in prolonged, close contact with a huge percentage of the other people there due to the dance floor and socializing. In a football stadium, they are only in prolonged close contact with the handful of people seated around them. A theatre is similar. There's not really much difference between a stadium/theatre and a table game at a casino.

The virus doesn't spread like a game of telephone where it goes to the person next to the infected person and then repeats around the stadium. It needs time to infect "patient 1" before they are contagious. I don't know how long that takes but it is certainly longer than the length of a movie or sporting event.

I have seen reports of many cases of COVID-19 linked to a single nightclub or party. I haven't seen reports of any outbreaks linked to a movie theatre or sports stadium.

I can understand but one thing all need to understand is that a family has to make very difficult decisions in life if income levels drop to adapt to current or future conditions. 😉 Easier said than done but necessary instead of voicing pricing and not enough govt assistance.
But WHAT decisions would you have us make?!?!?! The cost of living here is TOO high. My husband has worked there for 15 years! It’s not some part time gig. We’ve made a life here. A 2b2b apartment costs hundreds more per month than our house! We wouldn’t qualify for for an apartment anyway if he ends up jobless!!!!

Whole Foods is a non issue for my area. WF markets are located in more affluent areas.

I can see Disney doing that. The cast members will need to go in earlier to get things up and running since everything pretty much has been shut down. There will be new procedures to follow. Once the social distancing recommendation is lifted I can see Disney and other companies starting to reopen on a limited basis. Some schools may open and others may not. A soft opening will allow them to evaluate what’s working and what isn’t.
