The DO have a power source, there is a battery on the roof of the car. It's not clear what it will power, but lighting is surely possible.

I’d imagine the lights to be LED and thus they won’t use much power at all. Station charges during load and unload may be enough time to keep everything going!?

I don't think they will be returned to the main station every night. There is no practical reason to do this and it would take time which means $$.
I didn't get the impression there are even charging rails in the main station where they all get parked. It is not protected from the weather and exposed copper rails doesn't seem like a good idea.

I see you've had a peek in the gondola convection oven section of the cookbook (To Serve Man). In part it states that "...gondolas should move at 5.006848 meters per second to achieve medium rare consistency so that the meat is most tender, juicy, and flavorful."
