The vast majority of air travel is non-essential. They would still have an exception for people with medical conditions. It probably makes sense to do if we are actually worried about safety on planes and slowing spread.
Trains are a little more difficult due to the open nature of most train stations and busses would be pretty close to impossible.
Plus, once 5-11 authorization comes in you could probably get away with an age exemption, as well. Not that many under-5s flying as an overall percentage.
The ability to travel from state to to state in your own country should not be limited imho. If we are going to close State borders we are going in a scary direction.

Why don't the vaccine producers think out of the box?, hey!, a vaccine in an aerosol form i.e. for use on aircraft. A large amount of people, in an enclosed environment, recirculated air + gradually infusing the vaccine in mist form = the passengers getting vaccinated over the duration of the flight. A painless way to transport people and vaccinate simultaneously. Just an idea.
Cruises do not provide state to state transportation. That is not even remotely comparable.
COVID is scary, and we need to start getting serious about getting rid of it. Vaccines are by far the most effective way to do this. Makes a heck of a lot more sense than forcing masks on 2-year-olds.

I only included it as another mode of transportation where people are crammed together with no reasonable way to escape each other’s air for an extended period. In the case of cruising it’s even more necessary for vaccine mandates.

Nobody said close state borders that is a completely different argument. You could walk, ride a bike, drive, go horse back. Many ways to cross from state to state without flying. Flying is definitely a privilege not a right.
People should be able to use basic transit services to travel. Travel is a basic right imho just like buying groceries.
