Lets see. The government can mandate a 45 day shut down that affects every single person and every single business everywhere in the country. Switching off the country and society. But government can NOT mandate those that havent been vaccinated... a minority of the people... to do so. Another big shut down is nothing more than appeasing some people hoping they go away. Then again, do a shutdown and its going to be them that gets the blame for it from everyone else. Thats on top of the blame they are already getting for how it is today.

Technically the government most certainly mandate people to be vaccinated if they so wish. The SCOTUS decided that in 1905 and have upheld it since.

Several colleges have mandated the vaccines and that may extend down into other schools when vaccines are approved for children.

It’s still a choice though. People can choose to not get vaccinated and businesses can choose to not admit them or employee them.

Are you serious? Colleges graduate teachers at a rate of about 20 to every 1 job…we’d be fine if people want to rely on the witch doctor and/or their favorite comic book

Two completely anecdotal “bus driver” bits of information:

The first was from a (not close) friend on FB:

The second: I was at GNC earlier today. There was one employee (unmasked) and I (masked) in there. Another woman and her daughter came in (masked.) While paying, she politely asked the clerk why, especially working in an arguably health-related place, was he not wearing a mask? (This is in Broward County, FL, btw. It’s really bad here.)

He said he thought he didn’t need it, he had the J&J vaccine. She identified herself as a nurse and said they are seeing a lot of breakthrough infection - and that they were almost all Pfizer (one J&J, no Moderna.)

Chicago public school employees are 78% vaccinated (67% fully vaccinated), and the Chicago Teachers Union is asking for vaccination centers to be set up in the schools. I'm sure that other areas of the state may have a more difficult time, but vaccination rates are going up quite a bit statewide.

I just gotta jump in again on the whole issue of “freedom” as an inalienable right. It is also a privilege— and with that privilege comes grave responsibility.

It is the very preservation of the common good that makes our freedom possible in the first place. One simply cannot exist without the other.

Throughout our history, Americans have had to repeatedly sacrifice their personal freedom for the sake of the common good. The devotion to and understanding of this concept is supposed to be at the very heart of who we are and what made us collectively exceptional as a nation in the first place.

What might have happened throughout our history if a blind insistence on absolute freedom without social responsibility had prevailed? What would those who fought and died to preserve our freedom say about that today?

One of my favorite lines from a recent editorial goes something like this: “We’re not asking you to storm the beaches of Iwo Jima; we’re asking you to walk into a damn CVS.”

Isn’t the fight against COVID a war against an invisible enemy? Why then should we not expect everyone to do their part?

Yeah... everything I’m hearing says that moderna is the big winner. My parents both got moderna so I feel good about that.

I got the J&J... would go back and get moderna with all the info I have now... which you know is part of the issue with taking vaccines that have just been released.

This is gonna sound blunt (hold your fire)…but to oversimplify:

want to get a vaccine that billions will get in the next year or two and have a 180 day work calendar that corresponds with your kids….or do you want to make a personal mission statement??

Well like any healthcare those closest to death or risk of it should get healthcare first. People wait months sometimes as it stands....there paying the price of there decision by being there on the first place. I think we should expand capacity in general though...remember all those tent hospitals that never got used?

• Require that employees submit proof of vaccination or participate in weekly COVID-19 testing

Or the measles or mumps…which used fo ravage children. But science and brainpower gave us another way…

malaria? Dysentery? Scurvey? Typhoid? Tuberculosis?

I just don’t have the patience of using “Liberty” or “free” when it comes to this. It’s about airborne Lipid balls that want to replicate and use you as their incubator…

May I ask if you live in an area with a low vaccination rate? People I personally know and love are being put at real risk because of the mentality you discuss. Do I think we can have national vaccine mandate? No. And really, 6 months ago I was naive enough to believe we would get to 80% quickly once the vaccine was widely available. That hasn’t happened. There are quite literally ZERO icu beds left in my state. For any illness, injury, surgery, etc. None. So what do you propose we do since getting a shot for the greater good isn’t on the table? This is an actual crisis and as much as I hear people fear losing freedoms - i have yet to hear a freaking alternative that is realistic in this situation. Kids are getting sick here because the adults chose freedom. My physician friends are literally begging people to help and they won’t. So rather than debate the constitutional and political ideologies WHAT SHOULD WE DO?
