I’m excited for this show. Was worried they were going to go for a cheaper animation style. Looks like they are sticking with a style closer to the movies!

June 11 2021 is the release date for Love, Victor season 2 on Hulu.

Last year, all episodes of season 1 were released at the same time. When the show came to Star/Disney+, they released 2 to start and then 1 at a time (so far 6 of the 10 have been uploaded). Hoping we don't have to wait 10 weeks (or whatever) to get all the episodes on Star.

So Black Widow is going to Disney Plus but was delayed to July 9th. Makes absolutely no sense to do a hybrid release in July. Things should be pretty much back up and running by then. Theaters should be at, at least 50% capacity. Just a strange announcement imo. Why not just release it in May with a hybrid release?

Or release it in July for theaters only.

They may decide to end up doing that anyways, if the numbers, reopenings and vaccinations go well enough.

Disney and Warners might easily modify their release plans again and go halfsies by having an exclusive theatrical period and move the streaming debut back a bit; if the numbers are are better. They may also move movies to be release earlier again But that might as easily not happen, depending on those numbers.

Idk, you cant really announce a movie like Black Widow for Disney+ and then just take it back. That would just annoy people. I'm sure they'll be watching and waiting to see how well GvK does. If that does really well then Black Widow will probably be the only premier access marvel movie we get and from Shang-Chi onwards they will be theatrical exclusive.

When I say "halfsies", I mean like having half of its theatrical run be exclusive, and the other half streaming-adjacent.

But again, you cant do that for Black Widow. Based on what they announced today the release strategy for that movie is already set. Maybe they could do it for Shang-Chi. In fact id say its likely. Well have to see what Disney's new theatrical window is. It will probably fall somewhere between Universal's 30 day window and WB's 45 day window. I could see Disney going with a 35 day theatrical window.

Do people really think theatres will be normal by July? I seriously doubt it. The public is still going to be hesitant, and there is no way they'll have the box office smash they'd normally have had.

It's better to maintain this hybrid model until I think end of 2021.

Especially when worldwide Cinema's are all in different places, much easier to have across the board Premiere and Theatres for all countries.

With Luca being a regular Disney+ release like Soul, that makes Raya the only animated release thus far to be Primer Access. Mulan, Cruella and Black Widow are all live-action titles.

No one said fully normal? I said 50% capacity. Better than last year by a mile.

Sure, but even if 50% capacity is available, this does not mean 50% will fill or sell out, as there will be audience hesitancy. It's way smarter to offer both and not lose any potential viewers.

I mean, sure, let's hope 50% across the country/world that has theatres open sells like crazy and it's a major boom, but there is no guarantee that will happen yet. Maybe in some areas of the US, but not globally.

Oh I agree. And that will be why their doing Premier Access for Black Widow. Feige likely convinced Disney to delay it to July while agreeing to a hybrid Disney+ release. Whether they do it for Shang-Chi remains to be seen. Well have to see where the theatrical market is later in the year.

Here's another question for you all. Do you think Chapek overruled Feige sending Black Widow to Disney+? Or do you think Feige and Chapek came to some sort of agreement?
