Trip Report Shrouded In A Daft Disguise *COMPLETED*

Two weeks ago today, I returned home from the most surreal Disney vacation I have ever experienced.

During my last visit in February, I couldn’t have imagined having to wear a face mask and have my temperature taken before being allowed into a park. “Social distancing” wasn’t part of my vocabulary. Hand sanitizer was something I carried in a little bottle in my purse, not something in giant containers at the entrance/exit of every attraction.

No park hopping? No Fastpasses? No FIREWORKS :jawdrop: ?!! Not even on my radar screen.

Like a bolt out of the blue, the pandemic struck and life was dramatically altered. For everyone. And there is no Magic Mirror to tell us when it will be over. For me the pandemic has been a reminder to take nothing for granted ~ and that there can still be joy in the darkest days.

My name is Tuvalu and I have been a WDW annual passholder for nearly 25 years. I was raised on Disney and so were my children. The parks have always been my “escape” from real life. Could they still be an “escape” in the midst of a pandemic? After months of quarantine, I was ready to find out.

My daughter Em was my travel buddy. My husband Woody had reservations, but not for our safety. He was concerned we’d struggle with the restrictions and disappointment with all the changes. He wanted us to come back happy and wasn’t sure we would. Truthfully, I wasn’t sure we would either. After much research and due diligence, Em and I felt prepared to embark on a vacation with few expectations.

Full disclosure ~ I‘ve wrestled with writing a report of our trip. The pandemic and subsequent events have caused much division on this Disney fan forum. I’ve always considered the trip reports section to be a “safe space” and hope it stays that way. My goal is to provide entertainment to the reader, nothing more.

With that in mind.....

I haven’t been on the forum for a couple of months now as I found it so depressing with all of the Covid-19 drama. I was so happy to see a Tuvalu trip report when I finally decided to return. It kinda makes me happy and sad at the same time. As we live in Belgium we’ve been to DLP often but we came to WDW for the first time last year end of October. We loved it so much we decided that instead of going 3-4 times a year to DLP we’d rather do WDW once a year and were planning on coming in 2020. Well Covid changed that😢 but we’re trying to stay positive and hopefully we’ll be able to come in 2021.🤞

I've been a passive observer on this forum for many, many years (only had the privilege to visit the World in 1999 and 2007 but I'm hooked and a dreamer). I'm a South African living in the UK who loves the magic that is WDW. Thank you for taking the decision to do this trip report; to you @coachwnh and @fractal it gives all of us who are so very far away something so very positive to focus on; so very joyful to celebrate and such a reprieve from the sameness of every day. To all the other #magicians who may squeeze in a trip - don't stop reporting! Better days will come, "all it takes is faith and trust" - to quote Pan
Thanks for the mention and yes "Better days will come!"

By the end of the week (after being asked if she was wearing a belt buckle) Em deduced it had to be the double metal clasp on all her Loft shorts. (Be warned, ladies. 🤣 )

I'm super delayed but I'm here! I've been off the boards because I'm too depressed to be stuck in NY and every time I have hope about a trip the numbers shift in either FL or NY :( (or my travel work policy changes)
Anyway...I set off the metal detector almost every time I fly around my waist and I wonder if this is why?!!?
Thank you for sharing :) Cant wait to read more!!!

Oh Lily, I hope you can travel to WDW next year! Thank you for your sweet words and for following along.

Love the review of the Wave. We will have to try it next time.
Thank you so much for posting room photos. I love them! I haven't been to the Wave since it first opened, but wow your meal looked amazing!
There may be another Wave review in Part Tu......;) 😁

Well, I see that I'm extremely late, but I made it before it said "completed"! Bring on the binge reading!
There is so much more to come! You’ll have plenty of time to catch up. :bookworm:

@Tuvalu - hope you and Woody have a great trip!

Are the crowds as light as last month?
Thanks, Fractal. Parks are a bit busier than last month.

I know you are missing your happy place something awful! Trust me, your experience will be so much sweeter when you finally return. (Just remember to ditch the Loft shorts! ;) )

Thanks for reading!
