I would love to see Universal use Young Frankenstein or classic monsters for a comedic, nonscary gag filled trick or treat trail. Essentially a maze meant to make kids/families laugh rather than scare people.
I am up for that! We could do something using the the mummy. There are cartoons out there where mummies act dumb and playful. I can't think of any right now but I know they are out there. Using something with the mummy theme would be fun for kids IMO

Some obvious choices would be Nightmare Before Christmas and Villains mazes. But things like Hocus Pocus, a Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Black cauldron, a Hades underworld, sleepy hollow, pink elephants/ heffalumps and woozles or maybe even a frankenweenie or alice in wonderland(2010) mazes would be really cool if Disney ever decides to take halloween to a creepier level.

Here's part of a whole line up of scare zones and walkthroughs for Disney's Hollywood Studios:
  • The Blood Moon (Scare Zone)
As guests enter Disney’s Hollywood Studios be warned for the blood moon is upon us, and with it those who lurk in the night come into the light! Try if you dare to survive as blood thirsty vampires come out looking for their next meal, and in fact some seem to have found their meal, or at least that is what the fresh blood on their clothes suggests. Innocent survivors are also roaming through the land crying, and wishing there was some way out for them. Finally expect some props that will stay out in the day to be present specifically an ambulance which has crashed into the tree, at night it opens as plenty of blood bags are just lying there. Occasionally throughout the night, vampires will enter and bathe themselves and nearby guests in the "blood".
  • Mola Ram's Domain (Scare Zone)
A veil of fog covers Echo Lake, as terror breaks out throughout the land. The vicious Thuggee cult has resurfaced led by a rebirthed Mola Ram, and they are out to please their goddess Kali. However they only know one way to please her, and that is with blood. Given that this shroud takes place in modern times the Thuggee cult has once again adapted, and are using new tools like chainsaws to satisfy their needs. So enter if you dare into Mola Ram's Domain, and be proud if you escape only missing a limb for they are on the hunt for any and all blood.
    • The Summoning at the Temple Trails Stage
Guests are invited sporadically throughout the night to view The Summoning. Here the iconic heart pulling scene is recreated, but with the new leader of the Thuggee Cult. Thuggee Cult members will call attention to the stage as they drag in what seems like a backstage area in order to prepare him. The new leader welcomes guests, and when the sacrifice is brought out in his cage (a realistic static figure with slight movements) has his heart removed. Upon offering the heart to the goddess the temple doors open revealing Mola Ram who kills the sacrificed, and the new leader. He warns all the guests to run, or they too will meet a similar fate. With that the dead bodies are escorted backstage with Mola Ram leading the way.
  • Muppet Labs: Specter Vision – A 3D Experience (Walkthrough)
Guests will enter by the extended queue of Muppet Vision, and exit into another queue near the show’s exit. This queue will be set up in the remaining space of Mama Melrose’s Courtyard. Guests will be given 3D glasses as they cross into the Studio 1 Store housing the walkthrough. Guests now journey through the haunted studio in which a horror film was being filmed, but due to the disappearance of the cast was cancelled and abandoned. Now with Specter Vision guests are haunted by all those who haunt this studio by not only screens, but smoke, scent, and actual cast members scaring guests within the walkthrough. Will guests survive the latest demonstration of Muppet Labs technology demonstration, or will they end up just like a Beaker, a ghost. This house is loosely based on Muppet Labs: Ghost Hunt.
I also made a whole event to rival Halloween Horror Nights at Disney's Hollywood Studios if you're interested:

Disney's California Adventure Scare Zones
  • Breakout: Located in the dead-end corner with GOTG Mission Breakout. The Guardians have succeeded in escaping the Collector's prison... but in doing so have unleashed the galaxy's greatest monsters to wreak havoc!
  • No Strings on Me: The upcoming Stark Expo has suffered a major power outage- thanks to Stark's latest experiment, Ultron. Damaged "Iron Legion" bots patrol the entire land.
  • Shape of Water: The Pacific Wharf is overrun by Lovecraftian water monsters.
  • The Junkyard: This is the place Cars go to die. Just outside Radiator Springs is the Junkyard Maze, home to damaged run down cars who have "awakened". Just like the cars you can stop by for meet and greets... only these cars aren't nice.
  • Bigfoot!: Grizzly Peak is home to horror maze themed to Bigfoot.

The statement there reminded me of the time Universal contracted Wayforward to make a pretty good Mummy game. That hence brought me to Shantae. What if Risky hosted an event there? Call it “Wanted: ZOMBIE At Large. Defeat the Purple Haired Menace!”

Sure. Pink Elephants is a wonderful idea and would fit the theme of the scariest things being the ones we cannot understand. Would probably work in Asia as a nod to the infamous live action film. Or in Fantasyland, of course. The Underworld could be nice in Fantasyland. I could also see characters like not only the Pink Elephants but also the Heartless, the Nobodies, the Cauldron Born, etc, as “hordes” that travel to different areas of the park.

And also, the acknowledgment of Disney-owned but not-Disney-branded IP would be acceptable here, as shown by the Shape of Water attraction. (Though I am mostly of the mindset that Disney should simply license out most FOX/ABC/etc IP)

My calling! Alright, so I wanted this in Sorcerer's Apprentice but was beat out by Bendy, so its time!

The Haunting of Hill House House

So obviously this house is based around the Netflix series The Haunting of Hill Hosue which is based on a Shirley Jackson story of the same name and was adapted into a 1960s film The Haunting as well as a terrible 1990s Liam Neeson take on The Haunting as well.

Anyway, this maze would follow along with the basic premise of the story, where you encounter set pieces in the old house such as the Red Room, the tea party, the tall man, the basement, all the while having the feeling that you're being pursued by a psychotic ghost. Also, encounter the Bent-Neck Lady multiple times for multiple great scares.

Now, to boost the realism to the show and the creepy factor, have extra actors dressed as ghosts just standing in corners and moving around. Not actually scaring anyone, just being there for people to see and freak them out that way, just like in the show

i love the pink elephant maze idea. that's great.

how about a grinch lead dr seuss themed parade for universal? it'd be surreal and weird but not scary.
They could easily be counterparts. The Grinch Night parade should have some floats for the event alongside many actors, set to a new arrangement of the Grinch Night theme. Think of it as the ultimate parade of the Seuss villains and monsters, with Yertle, Vlad Vladikoff, and many more featuring.

For Pink Elephants, Perhaps something like the Tapestry of Dreams would work, with a high focus on puppetry and special effects. Every room has something new.

If we don’t stop at Seuss, then Plankton, Neo Cortex, Mewtwo, and all sorts of others could join the fun.

9 Day Streak

Previous Day's Pitch

Our goal was to make either a scary Halloween maze for Disney or a not-so-scaey halloween party for Universal. So many wonderful ideas from so many people! Some highlights include a Sid themed haunted house for Toy Story Land, a comedic trick or treat trail in City Walk themed to classic Universal monsters, and a creepy Haunting of Hill House Walkthrough (which was very close to being created for a project in Sorcerers Apprentice Season 5, but the team went with Bendy and the Ink Machine instead)

Today's Project

Our goal today is to get some Broadway style up in here. In honor of the Tony's last night, let's make a Disney or Universal attraction based on a broadway (or West End or off broadway) play or musical.

The only rule is that the attraction can NOT be a stage show. So, no simply adapting a broadway play into a half hour version.

On the Record: JukeBox Spin

Kind of a clone of Luigi’s Flying Tires, with randomized Disney music playing. The queue presents elements of the plot of the play before riders get on board. A few songs that weren’t in the original are included, such as “Sanctuary”, “Guardians Inferno”, “The Rainbow Connection”, “Simple and Clean”, “I See the Light”, “For the First Time In Forever”, and of course, “Let it Go”. (Speaking of which, On The Record could use an update by now.)

Universal could get a ride based on the plot of the SpongeBob musical.

dang, i was gonna go for the wicked dark ride. how about a show themed around the history of broadway? the queue could be themed around a famous theatre which leads guests into a rotating room similar to the one used in the carousel of progress. inside, each scene is a famous song from a different musical brought to life by actors, animatronics, and sophisticated special effects.

I love that idea for a carousel show! I'm picturing each scene getting progressively more "real" and less"theater" as you go along representing getting lost in the magic of the theater!

And I'd love to see your pitch for a Wicked dark ride!

From back in So You Want to be an Imagineer Season 14 was the Great Broadway Ride. A broadway version of the great movie ride. We definitely got too self indulgent and made a ride that would be like 45 minutes long, crazy expensive, and requires a cast of live actors. But it was a lot of fun to work on!

10 Day Streak!
We made our first goal!!

Previous Day's Pitch

Our goal was to bring Broadway to the parks (but not as a stage show). As always, a lot of interesting ideas from dark rides to flat rides to carousel theater animatronic shows! Overall an award winning day!

Today's Special Project

Our goal today is special to celebrate our 10 day streak!

So, my thinking is that every 5th day can be 5th Gate Day. Every 5 days we take a day brainstorm something related to building a new park for the WDW resort. A day for theme, for lands, for a restaurant, etc. That way, as we do this fun brainstorming thread, we can make our way to building a dream park together too!

So, to kick off our first 5th Gate Day Project, let's start with the theme! What do we think would be an interesting theme for a new Disney park in Florida? We don't have to make a decision today. For now lets focus on coming up with cool ideas and building off of each other's ideas!

How do you guys like this idea for going forward? 4 days of random prompts, then 1 day of working on our dream park, then 4 days of random projects, then 1 day of working on kur dream park, etc...

Think we should do this? Or keep it how we have been doing it?
