I just had a curious question. When we were last at the parks one day my wife was ill and did not join us in the park. I had not thought that we could have maybe used her fast passes but would she have had to scan her park entrance for that to work? Do FP only activate if the person actually scans their park admission or is it not connected?

Yes, a park admission has to be scanned at the entrance to activate the FP. So no, you could not have used her FP.
