Aw heck... I definitely got a question for Disney right now... Well, actually a few, but mainly, why fix something that ain't broke? They're taking down the landmark of DCA? TOT was honestly one of the attractions that brought guests in AND it had a beautifully decorated queue, but now all of that hard work of done for this cheap money grab. Honestly, I'm getting fed up with Disney's commercial crap here.

Disney has been loaded with commercial crap for its entire existence.

I would try to boycott DCA, but that wouldn't do poop tbh since they already started... Honestly this makes me sick on a new level just watching one of my favorite rides go down for it's final days. It's like something I love has died... Only I'm grieving a ride.

"Only I'm grieving a ride". Pay close attention to that sentence.

But that's the whole dang point. I know I'm angry about a damn ride and I know I shouldn't, but darnit they're taking a PART OF ME away. And no, Disney hasn't ALWAYS been pure commercial crap. But then Walt died and the company wasn't about the animation or the quality anymore, it was just about the green moola. And though the commercialism has been going on for quite a while, I feel like in recent years it's been WORSENING. Really? Turning an elevator ride into intergalactic heroes or whatever? Pitiful, Disney. Really pitiful. But whatever, it's their decision. I'm just not standing by it. I have my doubts with this. I'll try to give it a chance, but really not gonna get my hopes up.

You do realize that ToT is based on a television and film franchise not owned by Disney, right? All they are doing is switching out one franchise for another one that they control.

Actually they really are not taking down any landmark, the building will still be standing just with a new paint job and it will still be a drop ride

And like others have mentioned the reason for this is because they have major plans up their sleeves and a tower themed to twilight zone might not eventually fit the theme of what is being rumored to be a pretty amazing new land with state of the art attractions.

I do agree the lobby had a pretty awesome theming but when compared to the original the cutbacks are evident as was the theming of the outside which didn't have the depth as the original as well.

Before the DCA makeover even the tower had overall low ride numbers and constantly ran with only one or two elevators. The tower began to gain popularity as the park also began to gain popularity.
Let's also not forget all the criticism the tower got when built because the facade was not up to par and becaus is location when viewed from Condor flats gave people memories of 9/11. People even criticized Disney for not paying attention for that detail when they decided to build it facing an airplane runway.
The things is that No matter what they do there will always be people that get upset or hate it. That is just what happens when you are a company that many feel strongly about.

Change happens sometimes not to our liking but
I think that so far it doesn't seem like they have disappointed the masses because the parks just keeping getting busier

Having seen Dr. Strange last weekend, I think that would have been a much better fit as the Tower's new theme. You have Dr. Strange in his creepy old, relic filled mansion, and he uses magic to travel through weird dimensions and battle mystical beings. With a Dr. Strange re-theme, the Tower exterior wouldn't have had to change much, and just new props and scenes for the different dimensions added. If Marvel had to take over ToT, I think Dr. Strange would have been better.

If only Doctor Strange came out two years ago and did the box office that GOTG did. Executives are not that forward seeing.

I had the same thought about Doctor Strange and the Tower. The use a projections and special effects would have worked as an overlay for the tower. I think people would have still be upset and maybe even criticized Disney for being cheap for leaving the tower the same and just changing the inside

With that said the movie does lend itself for quite an interesting multi sensory attraction. Even if it was a walk thru like the attraction in IOA Poseidon's Fury

What we needed is a better looking tower not an oil derrick. A tower that looked like the one at TDS with an internal Doctor Strange story line would have been incredible.

Of course I know that. I know the whole situation. BUT, wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to take out anything mentioning TZ? They could easily keep the theme and remove the problematic Non-Disney franchise. It would honestly be a better, less antagonizing or conflicting solution than what they are doing now. I don't see why they can't just keep the hotel theme but remove any mention if TZ and re-record the audio. And take out the part where they narrate about the Twilight Zone in the begginning of the ride. You would think THAT would be easier...

Executive's underlings aren't that smart.

You said your issue was that Disney has become too "commercial". I was only pointing out that they're switching out one commercially driven storyline for another. I agree that Disney has basically turned their parks into experiential advertisements for branded IP, but in this instance it's hard to make that case when ToT was based on a franchise that was still very popular when the original attraction opened.

From someone who LOVES GOTG, and just saw Dr Strange, and loved that one too, I agree with you, I think Dr Strange would have been a whole lot cooler to make a ride out of. But I'm sure the end product will be pretty good with GOTG too.

‏@MintCrocodile just posted this. You can see what the color looks like now. I'm hoping that's primer and not the final color scheme.
