A quick question for you Spirit in regards to your Star Wars comment, does this mean they have a plan finalized for the parks?

Great post. There's a lot of opponents other than just Disney to gambling in Orlando. I'm sure the bigger resorts--Harris Rosen's empire and Gaylord Palms come to mind--don't want the competition either. Nor do I think hard R gaming fits the PG-13 image Uni is going for.

That said, I think there is still too much old money and high-0end resorts around Tampa to ever see casinos there (plus what do the Scientologists think of gambling? They pretty much run Clearwater, no?). Only places in central Florida I could see it are up in the Villages somewhere--surrounding Bible Belters will probably fight it tho--or Daytona Beach, which already resembles Atlantic City in a lot of ways and where the France family can force it through if they think it will bring in a few more bucks during Speed Week. In any case, i agree, an hour away at best, and more likely confined to SoFla.
Actually Harris Rosen is one of the biggest supporter of the gaming industry in Florida. Shingle Creek was built with the idea of converting public spaces into a casino at one point.

WDW1974...I agree that United has destroyed Continental as an airline. Flew Continental almost exclusively for many, many years. I now use American and US Airways.

Great party last night at the Studios if anyone was able to make it. I have to admit it was probably the best service celebration I have seen in a long time. Makes me reminisce about what the company used to be and how much I wish it still was. Sure change is good but the problem there is no change. I wish they could re-discover that magic.

UPDATE: After reading this post I guess what I mean is that there IS change...just not the change we are all hoping for. Sorry for the confusion.

Let's look at scratch-off tickets. My state lotto has a monopoly on printing/selling them; I assume it's the same everywhere. Even though they have a complete monopoly, they still market, still have all kinds of themed games, etc. Other states have or had (these have come under fire, too) scratch-off deals with NFL teams.

Adding a bit here: Most of the state lotteries have scratch off tickets produced by one company (one that would be down the street from where I live) and it's not just an issue of licensing with state lotto boards rather either/or with the company that is the main proprietor in the U.S. and has now just merged with another major entity in the U.K.

The licensed tickets drive up sales according to the research and the states are quite pleased with that as they want to see their revenue rising, so it's worth the cost of licensing agreement with the lotto ticket manufacturer... Oh yes, that would be a little outfit called Scientific Games.

We flew business class to Russia. Lufthansa from US, United home. The service, amenities, etc were so much better on the flight over. Lufthansa even gives coach free beer and wine.

That was true of virtually all the international carriers vs domestic. You see this even today.. you'll get the better (updated) planes on the international routes on the US based carriers than you will the domestic routes. The expectation for air travel internationally is just so much higher than the standard we have in the US for domestic. And that rubs off even when the domestic carriers fly international.

SAS used to rock my world with their uniforms :)

Not sure if you're comfortable with sharing but care to elaborate? What do the service celebrations for long standing CM's entail? What made this one better than what they've been doing in the past?

Just wondering. CMs make (or break) the WDW guest experience and I know generally the company doesn't treat them well as they used to.
