Fast Pass for Fantasmic

Due to a foot injury, I was in a wheelchair yesterday while at Hollywood Studios. We ate dinner at Hollywood and Vine and got the Fantasmic Dinner Package when we made the reservations.

While being escorted to our seats by a cast member, we asked when the preferred seating section had been moved. (It used to be on the far right of the amphitheater. It is currently in the center). He told us that they are getting ready to implement a fast pass system for Fantasmic. He would not give us any other details.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a ridiculous idea?

There are times I would welcome having a FastPass system for Fantasmic that would allow me to go eat, ride, or do something without having to sit on this horribly uncomfortable seats for an hour + just so I could be able to see the show. If I had a FP, even if it were to the far right, it would make my touring the park and my dinner plans more manageable.

As an added bonus, if I could avoid that insipid pre-show I saw last time, all the better.

My concern isn't for the average family, it's more about tour groups sucking them all up. :). The view from side is pretty good. We've sat there the last 5 years or so. Last night was the first and most likely the only time we'll get front and center.

I have to say this though. For whatever reason, last night's Fantasmic was the best that I've seen in 10 years of Disney trips!

I would welcome the FP for Fantasmic! F is my sister's favorite show on property but it is awful having to get there so early. At least with the parades and Wishes, Illuminations, you can see how early people are lining up, sitting down and also see how crowded it is. With the ampitheater off the beaten path so to speak, you can't see how full it is to know whether you should sit now or if you have time to wait a bit. You have to walk all the way up to the theater to see how packed it is (or isn't) With FP, this would give you a guaranteed seat. May not be the best seat in the house, but at least you know you have one.

Yep, the Dinner package is actually a pretty good deal (as far as WDW deals are concerned) when you use it at Mama Melrose.

For those booking the dinner package for Fantasmic, make sure you're there in time for the show. We sat front row right next to the rope last weekend, but when the show started, cast members removed the rope and everyone who was already there started filling in the rest of the spots. I don't know if they intend to change that when fastpass comes into play, but I can forsee a lot of people getting upset thinking that they have a reserved seat and then "oops, you're a minute late to the show, sorry, no more front center seats"...

I like the idea of fastpasses for shows better than rides. Of course, I was there that fateful day in 1997 when at 2 in the afternoon I got trampled in rush to get into Country Bear Jamboree. I will now observe a moment of silence.

I think fastpass for Fantasmic is a good idea. You can never get a really good seat unless you show up hours before. The side is decent, but front and center is where it is at. They had a fastpass test during April so I guess they're going to have it full time soon.
