I originally wasn't sure if it was permanent or not, but it looks that way. It does look pretty bad, but I guess it saves Disney a potential lawsuit the way kids climb on everything these days...

It looks like a pretty cute area. I like the monkeys. I'm sure little kids will love it. though yeah, I'd agree the fence takes away from it a little.

It looks like it's the only place on the train that's easily accessible. The train cars are more boxy, so I suggest that it has less spots to get a foot up. The engine looks like it has stairs that go up and through it, so maybe this is a temporary fence until they complete some finishing touches, which would allow kids to go inside the engine, although I see a giant safety hazard there, especially with it being soaking wet.

Have to agree on that fence. It does look a bit odd and I'll wager that it will take your average kid exactly 10 seconds to climb over.

Especially ones that are sent into the play area solo while their parents go to grab a Starbucks.

Looking forward to seeing the two Dumbos in action!!

Why not just build the train engine so that it's not climb-through in the first place? The fence makes it look like after it was designed and built someone said "hmm... maybe thats not a good idea, but instead of fixing it, we'll just put a fence there". In addition to kids climbing over that fence, I'll bet $10 it takes less than an hour for a parent to lift their kid over the fence to get the perfect photo of them inside the train.

But... the expansion area as a whole is looking good. Certainly exceeding my expectations.

I would wager that the realization that the locomotive would be an issue did not come until after it was built and in place. These are the same people who built a floor with the intention of launching kids into the air like Tigger before realizing that was not the best idea.

The fence does look very odd. Not only does the front of it split in half and swing open, the shot that is in the middle of the bottom row (almost head on) makes it look like there is a gap of a foot or two between the fence and the car. Especially if you look at the ground. Some of the other angles make it look like it is much closer, but the spacing on the ground of that shot make it looks like there is a fair amount of space there.

Well to throw some real world accuracy in here...there are two locomotives in my surrounding area parked in one spot and both have fences around the eingine and not the box cars. I figure it is as this one is so that people don't climb up in and on it...imma justa sayin'

It does look like there is a significant gap between the fence and the locomotive. My two year old could easily wiggle in there, and of course as an average sized adult I couldn't, and then all heck is going to break loose. Ugg, I'm not a fan of water play areas anyway.

I'm with everyone else, they should put a glass wall, door, something at the top of the few steps on the engine, it looks like there is plenty of room for a kid to get up in there and play around. Doesn't make sense to me to build it like that, then block it off with a cheap looking fence.

Cute & colorful. Great if you have little kids and travel during the hot months. And if you are cool with your kiddies being soaking wet. I agree the fence looks random. Clashes a bit. What immediately came to my mind was how my family saw Donald's "house" in Toon Town the first 6 (?) times we were at WDW together. We always traveled in January/February. Donald's "house" was just a boat sitting there. Nothing worth really looking at. I realize it was a water feature and we didn't see the water turned on in all those trips. So what I'm wondering is wouldn't it have been a better use of space, resources, & $$ to create something that's all-season? If you're trying to cool the kiddies down during hot months, do the little water features like you see at Epcot, DtD, etc. Those are simple enough & serve their purpose. Right? Or, does the little Casey Jr. setup have some other thing it does if the water isn't turned on that I'm missing?
