The resale market for SOTMK cards is out of control.

Why would ANYONE pay that kind of money for something that they COULD get for free?

Especially when you can find ALL the cards on the internet and print your own if you are so inclined.

While I was there recently... there were a few people by the portals trading. BUT, they were very helpful telling my family about the cards. I do think there might be some people who try to get things from kids that they shouldn't... but, I'd like to think there are more helpful people than scammers. I was SURPRISED by how many adults were playing. I think my son was one of the only kids playing! I think trying to sell something like this is horrible... the whole thing is the discovery of getting the cards (and trading)

Yeah, I know it's just BUY IT NOW price but c'mon. That's soooo absurd to ask for a such a large sum of cash.

I've posted it up in my blog, which is in my signature it's updated everyday and filled with SOTMK info and articles.

Forget the stinkin' cards...do you realize how many WDW vacations I could squeeze in for that price?

Okay...probably 4. But still, I'm trying to make a point here.

Also how are we to know these are real? In order to play with them don't you need them to be the official cards? I have heard a lot of people say you can print off all the cards but I though the real ones had very tiny RFID chips in them or something like that. I thought I remembered seeing a picture of a "naked" card that had some sort of technology in it.

I would hate to spend 4,000 and then get to WDW and find out none of them work.

All the camera needs to do is read the picture. Any printouts, smartphone, etc will work.

Also only the key card has the RFID chip.

Also only the key card has the RFID chip.

So each key card holds any card up level information on it and not the actual card? Looks like I might just have to print off all those files I have onto some card stock before I return to the world.

I wonder if anyone is actively watching for people playing with fakes?

No way he gets that much.

IF anyone buys the set, he is looking at probably a couple hundred bucks (but I think it is going to be hard sell regardless). The market for the cards, especially the rare ones at 61-70, was huge when the game first started. It has quieted down substanitally since then which you can see from the completed auctions on ebay. Currently issued cards aren't selling well anymore and the few exceptions aren't going for much. Some of the rare cards that aren't available for free anymore do sell for a bit more but not as well as they had from what I can see. The things that seem to do the best are unopened packs.

I just makes me wonder if these were collected legally and if the auction will even stay up.

I'm sure they were. I know a lot of local who went to the parks on a near daily basis and loaded up on cards and were able to put together more than one complete set (including the rare cards when they were given out during beta testing).

Pick up some card stock and use them. The animations are pretty cool especially with Mama Odie & Jasmine.
