Walt Disney World has announced an expansion to the airport luggage transfer pilot:

Beginning Nov. 18, Guests arriving on domestic Southwest Airlines flights at Orlando International Airport (MCO) and staying at select Disney Resort hotels will have the option to skip baggage claim by checking their luggage at the Southwest bag drop area or ticket counter for direct delivery to their resort.

BagCheck — a third-party provider — will facilitate transportation of the luggage from the airport, with delivery to the resort within approximately four hours of arrival.

I'm guessing this is still only for Value resorts?

This convenient service lets you skip baggage claim...

That doesn't make sense... I have to grab my bag and take it to the bag drop area, how is that better thank just grabbing my bag.

I suspect we'll get back to Magical Express levels of convenience eventually, at least for baggage.

I think you got the quote wrong or DC edited it - see below:

I take that to mean you check your luggage at your originating airport at either their Southwest bag drop or ticket counter. I assume it will be tagged with some sort of indicator like ME bags were and then will be collected internally at MCO and shipped to the resort instead of being dispatched to the baggage claim area.

I also wonder if this would work if you gate check your bag and put the tag on the bag (I know this has worked in the past for us when they used to have ME) - we often just use a carry-on but I'm all about a gate check if I can not have to deal with my bag on the airplane.

I think it means there's now a counter at MCO and after you get your bags you drop them there and head off without your luggage and it will the get delivered within 4 hours to your resort.

Southwest isn’t getting a cent from me again. Still have 2 trips to burn my miles and then the only way I fly with them is if someone else (Chase Sapphire Reserve) pays for it or I accumulate enough miles for it to be free.

I don't understand why they are only doing Southwest flights and they call it a pilot program, 4 years ago they picked up at airports with ALL airlines to all Disney's resort and they picked up at ALL Disney Resorts and brought to airport, and they did this very well. I wonder if Disney is getting some kind of kick back from Southwest and this is why they are only doing Southwest flights. Four years ago they had everything in place to do all airlines. I wonder what is up with this?

If I remember correctly, the company that did this shut down. The guy in charge of the new company created the old company, but he's basically having to restart infrastructure from scratch, so it's a slower process than any of us would like, but faster than if a total novice had stepped in to fill the void. I also recall reading that MCO was fronting some of the bill because it helped their already over-capacity baggage system get things organized and out of their way.
