MUCH Much more than a cupcake. An easy layup for Disney given they have the goods to support a proper celebration both at MK and EPCOT.

You’d think. But Bob’s Disney?

They don't even do specials like this anymore..They should do more of these again..

We just watched this the other day around July 4th.

Good 80's memories. John Stamos rocking it with the Beach Boys at GF. Sandi Patty hitting notes during the finale I didn't even know existed. The Maelstrom reveal... Epcot's newest ride. Lee Greenwood on the riverboat. The Castle stage show was good, but "Golden Dream" was the best part imo.

I was 7 when this premiered "Live" (pre-taped mostly), but still. Those were good days.

Blatantly false.
Do you live in America? My guess is no.

Yeah, Disney has a daily ceremony lowering the flag, an entire hall of past presidents, a section of a water pageant that's still patriotic, and an entire show of history in a pavilion; they just want to be careful that when they celebrate history, they're not celebrating the wrong people or telling it wrong.

That's true and all of those things were implemented well before the current Disney regime. Thankfully, they haven't been removed entirely but I doubt they'd have ever been if these fools were running things in the beginning.

As a foreigner, I don’t get the idea that Disney is becoming less “American.” Like, sure, it’s not flags and eagle sounds in the background, but honestly, a lot of the new stuff screams USA to me: Tiana (the queue music is all covers of classic American songs), a new Cars ride inspired by their national parks, an Avengers attraction (you can’t get more American than that), and they just updated HoP with the new president. And wasn’t it just a few summers ago that we had Rogers: The Musical? That’s literally a tribute to a superhero named Captain America.
Even the new version of the Country Bear Jamboree sticks with country music—it's Disney songs, sure, but all done in country style and performed by American singers.

This post reminds us that there is a lot more to "America" than its politics. It is impossible for Disney not to be part of and to exemplify American culture. It is Mickey Mouse, after all.

A 250th celebration could very easily focus on the country's cultural facets. This would be a success. Even the slightest bit of "history," though, will be both delivered and received through ideological lenses, which may alienate half of the guest population.

Fourth of July and the fireworks prove that disney is still patriotic, I just dont think Disney, other companies, or small towns will recognize the 250th like they did the 200th. Every town had a parade for it, there are so many toys and trinkets that you see in flea markets or ebay for 1976 that are super patriotic. But next year I feel will fill like any other year, maybe things ramp up around july 4th but I doubt we will ever see a parade at disney or mass celebration for the 250th.

Just funny how things have changed,
I think this is the bigger point: times change and the country is in a different cultural moment than it was in 1976.

The way Disney celebrated the bicentenary was in tune with how the country celebrated it more broadly at the time and probably will be next year for the 250th. I'm not from the US, but my impression is that if WDW was to create a new parade, run a year-long celebration, etc. around the anniversary it would all seem a little eccentrically out of tune with the rest of the country.

It kind of goes without saying why Disney would not be doing the same things in 2026 that it would have done in 1976 rather than suggesting Iger hates America or whatever other reasons I'm sure people will propose.

Maybe a new film for hall of presidents or golden dreams at American adventure. Its a shame that the rivers of America and Tom Sawyer island wont be around that would have been a good area for a US celebration

It's not patriotic until Disney has a giant American flag like car dealerships. 🤣

I always wonder about things like this. I'm not in Marketing, but I am "Marketing tangential" - as in I am in process improvement and program malmanagement, but I work with the Marketing teams (and CX teams and UX teams, etc)

I have never once in my life been in the market for a new car, and said to myself "that dealership has a huge American flag out front, I'm going to go there".
