Trip Report I Think I Can Sing "Jessie's Girl" Backwards

Over the years we've(E, J & myself) have done quite a few last minute trips to Disney. Not really out of the ordinary for us, esp. years ago before J was in school. It was pretty easy to just pick up & go with not much notice. Now, in present times it's not so easy, esp. when we were going to have already been there less than 2 weeks prior to this trip(J's birthday trip).

So, I might as well get the big disappointment out of the way now. J was not with us on this trip.
You have JSR to thank for that. He had already missed 2 days of school a few weeks prior for his birthday trip & dad didn't want him to miss another day for this one.👎 And, even though this was a super short(48 hours) trip he was missed tremendously!!

Here's who you will see

I'm pretty sure you know everyone but just in case--our niece-H, our friend-S, the person that wanted to go on this trip more than any of us-R, E & myself.

And, the star of this TR(hey, someone had to try to take J's place!!)

2 weeks before the birthday trip R told me that Rick Springfield was going to be playing at Flower & Garden. I knew that & I also knew(b/c he's played there for years) that one day I would end up having to go there to see him. Now, before you get the wrong idea, I'm not the Rick Springfield fan, R is!! I do like his music, he does put on a great show & contrary to what most people believe he does have a lot more hits than just "Jessie's Girl" & "Don't Talk to Strangers". However, R is the big fan-not me. I ended up liking his music b/c of R. Would I fly to Disney for 2 nights to see him perform after I had just been there 2 weeks prior? Absolutely not!! But, when R offered to pay for the room & my flight I totally changed my mind!!

We booked a Lion King Suite at AoA. I told him we had to call E to see if she & J wanted to come. As I said earlier J couldn't but E was on board. I talked to H and told her we still had room so she decided to come also. E mentioned it to S & he decided to come too!! Big mistake though-he booked a Lion King Suite also. All that room for one person!! We should have thought to tell him to get a Little Mermaid room.

We originally were going to fly down Sunday late afternoon after I got done working. We were to return Tuesday morning b/c I had to work the late shift that day. Then we decided b/c it was such a short trip that we would take the 5:00am flight on Sunday-let me tell you, I'm getting way too old for that(says the girl who's doing it again in October). I asked my boss for Sunday off & we were good to go.

You know what that meant--an extra night of Rick Springfield shows!!😧

After getting up at the ungodly hour of 1:30(is that even healthy?) here we were at 8:00am!!

And by 8:30 we were here!!

Funny how we can't make it to a park this early when we're already on property yet we can flying from Pittsburgh!!

We were all starving b/c nothing was open in the Pittsburgh airport before we took off so we made a reservation here on our way to AK.

My breakfast. It was good but the service was so slow!! We were all getting aggravated!!

R's breakfast.

H, S & I rode EE while E & R sat by "what once was Rivers of Light" and had some Safari Ambers.

Then we decided to catch FotLK. I love this show!!

Then it was time to head out!! It was a quick but fun visit to AK!!

OMG-the line to get into the Garden Theatre was absolutely insane!! We didn't think we would even get in for the first show. After listening to multiple people talk in line it sounds like he always draws a pretty big crowd there. I have to say his first show that Sunday was the most crowded one of the 6!!

We did get a seat-not the best but I knew we had a lot more chances to get something better!!

So, we literally exit the theatre then get back in line. While R got in line I got us some drinks.

Round 2!!(better seats)

This time we had the tickets from the dining package. We still waited in a long line-just in the opposite direction. And this line was a wet one!! It was raining pretty steadily the whole time!!

Round 3!!(You do get much better seats with the dining package).

Round 3 was much better than Round 2. I have to say that Round 2 was a disaster. He kept saying how his allergies were bothering him & he took too much Benadryl. So much that he forgot the words in the 2nd verse to "Don't Talk to Strangers".😳
I'm sorry the second show was disappointing. I will say, as a singer myself, forgetting the words can happen to anyone. I once sang the wrong words to the national anthem in high school because the announcers were making faces at me (they were teachers and jokesters) and completely distracted me. I think they felt bad. But I've suffered from anxiety for years and it's why I chose not to go the performance route with my degree. I hate performing solo and will avoid singing solos if I can help it because I'm terrified I'll forget the words. I think part of the reason so many musicians get addicted to drugs or alcohol is because they actually have stage fright and they get through it by self-medicating. I'm not much of a drinker and refuse to self-medicate to deal with the stage fright, so I'd have been a disaster as a performer. I have a degree in music, so I'm considered a professional musician, but I get way too nervous. I always wonder how people make performing a career.
But this is exactly why I'd never want to do it... The pressure of putting on a great show, worthy of people actually paying to see me sing... How could I possibly live up to their expectations? I would hate disappointing them.
Obviously I can't speak to what was going on with him or why he sang the wrong words, and it sucks when you've paid a lot for tickets to see it and it doesn't live up to your expectations. I'm so sorry that was your experience, but glad the third show was better!

Wow, yay for your niece! And that's so sweet that Disney comped her meal! I'm sure she deserved it, but it's nice that they did it.

What is a pepe's special? What's in it?

Sorry about the damage from the storm! Did you get it fixed yet?
