Just so everyone is clear on things of pace, it took six months for California Screamin' to go through the extreme transformation to Incredicoaster.

Didn't it take almost the same amount of time to convert Tower of Terra into Guardians of the Galaxy? Which was much more extensive. They work fast when they want to.

I don't think this project will take that long, it's reusing all the old infrastructure besides the removal of the store and having to build the coster, which is the most expansive part of it and they can start work on the coaster without closing the rest of the land.

How long did Tron Lightcycle run take under similar circumstance but even less since it only utilized an exit path and had an area mostly dedicated to construction to itself outside of train track and speedway.

Does anyone think it is likely that they market Monsters Inc coaster and area at the same time as Tropic America's is that new?
They may be desperate finally to get people to visit those parks that are not MK, but it has not been there method for a long time and it would be interesting to see if they were that desperate. Usually major attractions(in this case both lands) have six months to a year to themselves of marketing attention, especially under current DIsney.

Yes, limiting the argument to the moment ground is broken to the opening does shine a good light on the projects time wise. You are exactly correct about the moment ground is broken to opening dates on those past projects.

In August of this year at D23, I think Josh said dirt was moving on some of these upcoming projects already? I may have heard it wrong, darn human emotions!

I guess it’s just me, but they seem to talk about doing stuff way too soon, and as we saw with what we ended up in EPCOT (for whatever reason) did not resemble early concepts.

Looking forward to the 2027 opening of Tropical Americas and the 2028 opening of Monsters!

I am not trying to shine a good light on anything. You are clearly looking to shine a negative light so maybe that’s why you assume I’m trying to do the opposite. I am dealing in facts not emotion. I am not defending Disney for taking 3+ years for these projects. They certainly could build faster if motivated. They aren’t motivated.

Once a project gets to the point of breaking ground Disney has a pretty solid track record of completing on schedule (Covid projects aside) and most recent projects have taken 3-4 years to build. Ground has all but broken on Tropical Americas. I have a lot of confidence it will be done by end of 2027. If Monsters breaks ground in 2025 I have a lot of confidence we‘ll see it by 2028 and if the MK projects break ground in 2025/2026 both should be open before 2030. You said we wont see any of these projects for 5-7 years which would be 2029 to 2031. I think there’s a better chance that all 4 open before the calendar turns to 2030 then none opening until 2029. My gut still says one opens each year 2027-2030 so Villians last in 2030.

Tron broke ground February 2018 and was supposed to open Fall 2021 for the 50th. It was delayed due to Covid. I have no doubt that if there was no covid and if the 50th was actually the big deal they wanted it to be it would have opened on time. I have no way to prove that but as you said, they rarely want to build fast, I think that would have been one of those rare times but we‘ll never know.

I 100% agree that they will want to space out the openings. I think the only way Monsters and Tropical Americas both open in 2027 is if somehow they are confident Cars is going to be ready in 2028. The MK projects are much more extensive so opening TA and Monsters in 2027 then 2028 gives them time to work on MK.

Inside Out: If the target is 2026, it's Magic Eye due to the work being less than the work needed to get WoL back in good shape. Something something budget. Figment isn't leaving the ride though. He never will, that's the one line upper management knows they can never cross, because Figment merch moves.

SSE: Lounge will likely be its own beast apart from the ride itself, I don't think they announced it last D23 without knowing SSE the ride is gonna go down.

Monsters Inc: Hedging bets on 2027-2028 opening. Gut feeling.

I still strongly feel the timeframe is Cars and Monsters in 2028 and Villains in 2029. My more operative question is what does 2026 look like? Is it the Muppet Aerosmith conversion and a DAK night show?

The Tree of life Zootopia show is scheduled for winter. Of 2025… So I am guessing next December which is essentially 2026….plus Also Smugglers Run is getting a new adventure with Mando and Grogu as well in ‘26

That makes sense. They could pair Zootopia and the DAK night show and Smugglers + Muppets RnRC. I wouldn’t expect muppets vision to actually close until 2026 when those reopen.

(I know I’m making up that there is a DAK night show in the next few years… but I’m probably not far off the mark on that)

And that really sums up the company's scruples and why others have been ready to sweep so much of the slack. They have chosen to be this way.

Honestly, I think a show would fit the IP better than a ride. Unless you wanted to do a book report, a ride would just be scene after scene of the emotions standing at the control panel. That would make for a very boring dark ride.

My kids loved Cars when they were little and are both in high school now so even if it opened tomorrow they also missed out on a Carsland in FL when they were in their prime years as fans of the movies. It is what it is. At least we got to see the one at DLR when they were closer to the prime age demographic. I am a grown adult who very much enjoyed Radiator Springs at DCA and I’m sure my family will also enjoy this Carsland. We probably won’t be getting in line for a Lightning McQueen meet and greet but as long as the main ride doesn’t suck we’ll probably enjoy the land.

I personally have no issue with Disney announcing longer term projects. If they never mentioned the project it wouldn’t make it open any sooner. They could have said nothing and waited until a year or so before opening but you know insiders would leak the info out anyway and we’d all know what’s coming anyway.

At this point in time, as a life long Imagineering fan, the Disney park that will lose out to Epic Universe is Disney's Hollywood Studios. The Universal park to lose out? Probably the Studios- but I love Dragon Alley. I only have so much time off.

You know, it's not a bad idea if Muppet Vision 3D was to move to the Magic Eye theater in EPCOT and it be renamed the Jim Henson Theater. Muppets at the core are pure imagination and it would be a great tribute. They could bring back the Muppet mobile lab too. We will never get another Muppet land as much as we all want it. Seems like a pretty good comprise and then Figment gets the ride he deserves.

I find it interesting (and quite mysterious) that we haven’t heard much of anything from insiders re: their thoughts on the scale and/or quality and/or immersion-level of the door coaster.

I don’t know whether to expect something that’ll blow our minds—with a detailed queue, multiple preshows, grand sets, and amazing effects—or something that’ll just be “fun” a la Tron.

Based on the model they presented, I’m begrudgingly guessing it’s closer to the latter (even though they have decades of expectations to live up to… or fall short of). I hope I’m mistaken, of course.

For creatives, it is also a scary time that gives more time for things to be cut.
