DHS Monster Inc Land Coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios

Let’s be clear about what’s happening here:

A classic, long, well-written, historically significant, AA-heavy attraction that magnificently showcases its IP is being replaced with a short, likely screen-heavy ride of a type Disney has significantly overbuilt recently, a ride that will poorly represent the core of its IP.

The fact that this stupid idea has been kicking around in fan circles for over a decade has somewhat muted the response, but this is one of the worst ideas WDW has ever had.

And all of this is exacerbated by the fact that a much better model for a Monsters ride has existed in Tokyo for years.

Monsters Inc laugh floor is humans looking into a portal of the monsters world, how would it make sense to put it inside the monsters world when you are already there.

If I gotta be honest, if they moved muppetvision I would not care, grand avenue stinks, muppets has always been the only thing of value in there (mama Melrose too). I think grand avenue should 100% be upgraded, just not at expense of MV3D

The "portal" was only there to justify inclusion in Tomorrowland. Besides, it's not like the attraction couldn't be rewritten, fwiw.

darn Mama Melrose is one our favorite spots to relax and enjoy the ambience, another one to mark off the list, not much left thats decent.

The strongest concept I've heard is "Muppets American History" to replace Hall of Presidents. That checks a lot of boxes:

• It's an IP Disney owns
• Half the country hates HOP at any given moment in time
• HOP is the lowest-rated attraction in WDW for several guest demographics
• The current HOP really has no "here's where we go from here" opportunities. They're not going to turn it into a musical. It's just not a subject that a lot of people care about enough to see.

Plus, the Muppets are viewed as largely apolitical by most Americans. They could tell the good parts and the bad parts (and avoid others entirely) in a way that most people would enjoy.

One truth this whole thing illustrates is that theme park fans are pretty good at determining when and where something needs to be fixed (the Animation Courtyard graveyard, the terrible Imagination pavilion, Magic Kingdom capacity, etc) but are usually dreadful at determining how to fix it or at imagining new attractions.
