It’s been a PR/liability issue from the start. And they learned not to trust the Florida government (last year…when it was all about locking up grandpa and “reopening the economy” 🙄)…

it’s not about “lowering cases” at wdw.

it’s groundhogs day here again. Have a good one 🦫
Why doesn't Universal have the same PR/liability issue? Comcast is also a huge company. Their market cap is only $40 billion less than Disney (14% or so).

Because everyone already knows Comcast is a garbage company.

That and the fact that Disney is the first name most people in the US think of when they think of theme parks - and the parks are a major part of the company's identity. Regardless of how some on boards like this may view the 2 companies recently, Universal isn't viewed as the gold standard of theme parks to the general public and doesn't generate the amount of out-of-state tourism that WDW does.

Because it’s Comcast and they are completely different. (Not joking…I have a couple of vp’s kids on my hockey team…I can literally see their headquarters from my roof on a clear day)…

they are not in the same market position as wdw is…they’re playing catch-up and seizing the opportunity to cut into the lead with a move like that (really not that much - however)

but beyond that…it’s Disney’s niche that is a bigger deal. They charge a fortune using the image of a grandpa putting down a toddler who awkward walks over to hug Mickey Mouse…they’ve spent 100 years building that up. It’s not about what cranky Gen Xers who go to the parks too much want. They just pay the bills…but that’s not how their sausage is made.

Disney has a greater PR responsibility…and it’s worth many billions every year. They don’t need even the possibility of more bad news coming out of Orlando right now. They didn’t sell out on a date they played up for five years. Nobody is considering what a shock to the gut that is…except on Wall Street.

They ought to consider how getting involved in sports gambling will affect their image, but that's a topic for a different thread.

Ugh! I believe in the science of masks. But the variables of Disney outweigh the safety and protection masks provide. People removing their mask on and off throughout the day and constantly touching their faces, or incorrectly wearing them, and the massive crowds in the parks. Are you really going to tell me Disney thinks this will safely protect us? Again, I believe in mask but only when it makes sense. If Disney truly cared they would reduce crowds. At this point, with companies having different policies and vaccines available let the individual decide.

Gambling is 100% intertwined with sports now. They don’t have a choice. There are no other options If you want a piece of the sports game.

(weird week for me…my baseball team is about to purchase my lifelong favorite team - the hockey one. Literally as I type this)

It will be through ESPN only - and they're only looking to partner, not run something directly. They already have all types of commercials (and betting lines) for gambling on ESPN so there won't be much of a difference in the customer-facing side of things, except that Disney will get a cut off the top of whatever comes through the ESPN-branded betting site (which will likely be FanDuel). Its the same way a lot of the states and First Nation casinos are getting their cut.

Because Comcast doesn't have close to the same image as Disney.

Comcast knows they're hated.
I don’t know how many people know that the reason Comcast changed their cables services to “xfinity” is because of its negative business connotation

comcast corporate didn’t want to be associated with their awful core product anymore…as they moved more into IP, parks, etc.

you literally can’t make this stuff up.

You can extrapolate much of this to the nation at large.

Disney's image is NEVER good to the most obsessive fans, like those on a Disney message board, who will constantly and consistently find things to gripe about.

But to the general public, it's quite good.

This thread is no place for logic.

Masking at Disney still required with a post earlier today from a completely unreliable source saying news by the end of the week.
