My mom's childhood best friend is joining us for part of our trip. Awesome news...except that the trip is in 2 weeks and mom wants her added to our 'Ohana dinner reservation. From a reservation for 4 to a reservation for 5...

No problem if we want to eat at 9:40PM! (The night before the marathon, no less.) I'm going to keep checking for a cancellation, but in the meantime I'm making mom and friend a reservation at Grand Floridian Cafe. I feel like kind of a jerk for not wanting to give up the 'Ohana reservation, but...well it won't kill them. We can meet up afterward. :D

Just wanted to share with folks that I know will "get it"! LOL!

Totally get it. If all else fails I would try to add your 5th at the podium when you check in. Going from a party of 4 to 5 can be a bit of a tall order, but they will do it if they can.

That's the problem with reservations 180 days out last minute changes are not always possible. Good luck and at least you can meet up later

Completely understand!! We had friends drop in a couple of years ago during our trip. I was so psyched about returning to Ohana and knew I wouldnt be able to add them on, so I actually asked them to come a day later LOL

Actually we had this issue last year at Akreshus. We had a resi for 4, then my parents decided to join us, so I called dining and they changed it to 6. Then my sister and her kids decided to join us, so I had to call yet again and change it to 9. It was no big deal to them, they just changed the number of guests on the ADR. I would call 407-WDW-DINE

Thanks for the suggestion. :) I did call on Saturday (20 minutes on hold)...no dice. :(

I think the issues are...

1. 'Ohana is probably the hardest reservation to get right now besides BoG
2. We're moving from a table that seats 4 to a table that seats 6 (for 5 people)

If we were going from 3 to 4 or 4 to 3 then I'm sure they could help me on the phone because we'd only be changing the number of people but still be at a 4-person table...but now it's a matter of finding a 6-person table to replace our 4-person table, and they don't have one available. (If that makes any sense.) At least I think that's what is going on.

I am one of the few people in my office today so I've been refreshing the Disney Dining page and the only available time for 5 is 9:45PM...just a bit worse than what I was seeing this weekend! LOL!

SUCCESS!!
Awesome!!!!
A 7:05PM reservation for 5 opened up and I grabbed it! Now I don't need to bribe the CMs at the podium...such a relief. :D

UPDATE:

Per my mom's request...just had to add a 6th person to our reservation, which is this Saturday!

Luckily the Cast Member took care of it easily over the phone...much easier to go from 5 to 6. But MOM...you're killing me!

Just remember she went through labor and gave birth to you not to mention your teen years!

Of course we all understand! Especially for 'Ohana. I've been in the same shoes on past trips where I had to add 2 guests to a few reservations, they were added to some no problems and I sent them off on their own for a couple that they could not be added too, I think it was only 2. They understood and it all worked out, as it always does in Disney.

Yeah, I had to change a few other reservations but I knew that 'Ohana would be the only one that would be tough. I had a back-up ADR just in case, but we're good to go! :D
