Yet another cutback?!? MK Entertainment

I'm having trouble summoning up my usual endless well of outrage, Yes I'll write yet another letter to Georgie K which will be shredded on receipt as it appears all complaints are these days.

The fact of the matter is why get upset anymore TWDC's customer is no longer the Disney Guest it's the Wall St Analyst community and Disney is desperate to 'make their numbers' and since Disney is run by 'numbers guys' they are focusing on the pennies - while opportunities to make dollars fly over their heads because they have no imagination and no stomach for risk taking.

I'm just aghast at the relentless cutting of all the things which made up the Disney Difference, The Clowns were not a big deal to me for me clowns are 'meh - But they are ESSENTIAL to the atmosphere of a circus and they have been since Roman times.

If you think about it, roving entertainers do nothing but alter the flow of traffic between FP+ ressie, ADR, and gift shop.

I think half the problem is the loaded questions on guest surveys. I bet for this one the question was 'do you find the walkways at Storybook Circus too crowded?'. Obviously on a busy day many guests will say yes.

But if the question was 'Would you like to remove the live entertainment to make more walking space', guests would say no, but the surveys are never phrased honestly like that, so that whenever there's a backlash they can trot out 'guests told us they want this' as their answer to everything.

All they need is a few percentage points here and there, I'd hate to see what a real downturn in travel would cause.

Ya know, on one hand its exciting to think about whats coming down the pipeline in the next few years in regards to projects such as Avatar and the DHS overhaul. It makes all the entertainment cutbacks slightly more bearable. But the timing of these closures, cutbacks and refurbs is just absolutely horrible. Seems as if they just decided to do a whole bunch of stuff all at the same time with total disregard to how it will affect visitors and the parks. Ya, ya, Im complaining even when theyre fixing stuff, blah, blah...thats not what Im doing, so save your breath and shut it.

I give them total credit for finally getting off their a$$ and doing stuff, thats awesome, and it has somewhat renewed my faith for the parks. However, cant help but think that they have painted themselves into a corner here. For a company that LOVES to do phased openings, they sure dont seem to care for phased closings. They have gotten so far behind themselves and so deep into budget cuts that entertainment is suffering greatly and DHS seems as if it will be a park that will take less than a few hours to do everything with Backlot Tour, American Idol, LMA, and Indy (potentially) all shut down. In the end, I think good things are coming and Im excited, I just hope they learn from this and dont slack off for so long next time.

I'm sure your fear would be realized.

I have little doubt that a task group has already imagineered what steps could be taken if an Ebola outbreak would happen to emerge at WDW and guests started cancelling or rescheduling their trips. What resorts would close, which CMs would be 'temporarily' be laid off and what attractions and entertainment would be cut or shuttered because of the use of real animals. And if hypothetically if this did happen, what would return and what would never return. After 9/11 a really good restaurant at Port Orleans never returned when the resort came back online a painted board just sealed the entrance for a long time. I would expect something like Ebola could quietly release many entertainers and smaller attractions.

I'm sure you are correct on the contingency plans, I hope that never comes to pass because after a hit like that the likelihood of WDW reopening in it's current form are slim and none. The Seminole's would probably get a new casino location though...
