Wookies, & Rebels, & Droids... OH WHY?! The Anti-SWL in Disneyland Thread

I was on the fence about Star Wars Land, as in I was not as passionately against it as some...but not entirely thrilled about its placement either.

Then I was perusing Google Earth for another project I was working on and found this...

Ok I'm taking a side now.

Oh the humanity....

You're seeing that now for the first time?

Surely not all of that is going to be Star Wars, is it?
I would think that a good portion of that is going to have to be general park infrastructure that was bumped back and now has to be rebuilt.

Well alrighty then.
I mean if you look back a dozen or so pages (think from Dec or so) I remember having this discussion where while I could see why people didn't want it, on paper it didn't seem like the end of the world to me. And I've seen a few construction updates from the sides, seeing it in concept art, eh it's okay.

Then I saw that image and while a bit hyperbolic given the dirt around the exteriors that isn't part of the land -- it's way too big of a chunk of Disneyland. So peg me on the side against it.

Yeah this has been debated ad nauseum for almost 2 years now online on various Disney fan sites. Sorry, but I can't help but be surprised that you were unaware of the scope of this project.

I've been aware of the scope, but sometimes things on paper are not as they are in practice. That and I haven't been keeping up with the DL projects as much as I used to.

Since this is the negative Star Wars thread, I figured I'd post my updated, adjusted opinion.

Do you think this is a good move?

Of course I do. I've pretty much read every argument and nothing I've seen has convinced me otherwise. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and we all have our personal preferences, but there's no basis for arguing that SW Land isn't a good fit for Disneyland.

So everyone is entitled to their opinions...but there's no basis for arguing a counter opinion to yours? Okay then.

I mean a fit philosophically. They are not constructing a casino, strip club, brothel or an X rated film studio. They are building an entertainment area themed to Star Wars, a hugely popular IP for all ages that has had a featured E ticket ride, as well as other minor attractions, at Disneyland for almost 30 years. If you aren't a fan fine, but in my view there's no reasonable argument that confirms what they are building isn't a legitimate thing to add to Disneyland.

With that I'm done. Please continue with your regularly scheduled programming.

Eh... it's big, but so is Cars Land and to me it's worth the larger footprint if it means being able to provide guests with a completely immersive experience. Modern attractions & storytelling demand more space, bigger show buildings, etc. unlike the more quaint lands of yesteryear. Plus, as others have said, a lot of that space will be devoted to back stage infrastructure and what not.

In the end, less space would have meant one E-ticket vs. two and enough space left over to not accomplish a whole much of anything so why not use it all?

Interesting, isn't it? That's been the schtick recently here in the DL forum. Those who are for a project can speak their minds all they want, but those in opposition? That's a different story. It's laughably ridiculous.

Anyways, yes, SWL unfortunately will be taking up a huge amount of space. I think about what could have gone there and I get even more upset.

So your point is Star Wars is popular so that's all that matters?

The reasonable argument on the other side is that theme matters in a theme park. If you haven't figured that out by now what the other side is arguing then there is no point debating, because you absolutely refuse to listen to anyone other than those who agree with you.
