Will DVC let you switch resorts at the last minute if there is availability and the points are the same?

Not normally. You have to bank and reuse your points.. and it is hard to get availability at the last minute... But it is worth a phone call :)

Couldn't you bank, then immediately book? We rent DVD and I was hoping to switch to Beach Club since Boardwalk pool is closed.

If you can't switch don't be bummed. They are shuttling boardwalk guests to Stormalong Bay pool which is way nicer!

We'll it's available, but the owner we rent from says she won't ask. She said you can't do it... period.

She could bank and rebook... but it is her call.... OK TRUTH IS....The last few times I have been to BC-villas THEY are in desperate need of a renovation. Keep your beautiful BW room and use the non themed pool and go over to Stormalong Bay. ... don't let it mess up your trip... I do not want to get in trouble on this site... But the other TRUTH is we go over to SB when we are staying at BW and it is a very short walk... BWs Room condition is just much better than BCV. Its going to be ok :)

There's absolutely no need to bank points just because you're changing a reservation. There may be specific, unusual situations where you would want to do that, but it's not a normal part of the process.

OP, the owner would have to cancel the reservation and rebook it. Last minute availability can be really, really tough to get with DVC; most owners book 7-11 months out so there's likely little left at any resort last-minute, especially with President's week coming up.

Most owners who rent consider the transaction to be final, so I'm not really surprised that the owner doesn't want to make a last-minute change.

Money talks. Slide them a Benjamin or 2 and they might make the call;)

Is there a point difference between the 2 rooms? If I'm not mistaken I think BCV is about the same as a premium view at the boardwalk, but the standard view at BWV is less points. We were looking at a 1 bedroom in the summer when I compared. My point is the owner may not want to rent more points to you or they may have banked the remainder of their points not rented into next year so they may not be able to.

You can use the Beach Club pool is you stay at Boardwalk while the pool is closed. They even have a golf cart that runs you there if you want to go. It's near the walkway to the Studios behind community hall.

I know but thats a pain in the but, you shouldn't have to be shuttled to the pool when staying at a deluxe resort.

I use the same owner every year and she is usually very accommodating. Oh well.

Unfortunately they are refurbing the main pool but the quiet pool is open at BW. Even deluxe resorts need some TLC. It's a fast wlak or even faster boat ride to BC.

When I did this (oh, maybe 10 years ago?) I had already been at the resort for a couple days. When I called Member Services and said I wanted to switch to another resort, MS said they had to call the resort for availability less than 3 days from check-in [that is, up to 3 days before checkin; the fact we were already there put us in that catagory]. Fortunately we didn't have a problem changing resorts.

Today the only difference I know of is that you will now be charged for an extra room cleaning.

Really? Great, now I'm really second guessing staying at BCV. I was already afraid I wouldn't like it as much as BWV, and hearing this makes me that much more certain.

BTW, this is one thing I don't like about DVC. Reminds me of Universal. You have to cancel and rebook. If you're renting points, the owner simply might not be willing to do the work for you. A definite plus to booking directly through Disney. You can simply change your reservation ( based on avalability) with no problem.

If I was an owner, this would be unacceptable to me. Isn't that what dues are for?

We own at Beach Club and my parents own at boardwalk. There would be a few issues switching.

    1. It is harder to book this late at BCV since it is smaller. I know we book at our 11 month window just to be safe every time we plan to go.

    2. BW is only 10 points a night for a standard view room and BCV is 15 for a standard view. The seller probably doesn't not have the extra points at the moment and does not want to go through the hassle of switching. But at this point the rooms are not available anyway.

    3. The pool situation is annoying but you can go to the villa pools at BW instead of going over to BC. But I would take atvantage of Stromalong Bay at BC since no one is usually allowed to pool hop there.

...honestly I would look into buying your own next time you go and buy at the resort you want. So that you can make changes yourself. Of course you can only do this if you can afford it but its atleast worth a visit. My wife and I bought at Beach Club in 2011 and slowly add on more points as we can afford to buy more.

Good luck either way your at Disney so smile :)

If you are using the main Disney website to conclude that Beach Club is available...you are mistaken. The rooms listed on Disney.com are available for cash stays only. Accommodations available for DVC points stays come from a separate inventory.

Beach Club is typically fully book 5-6 months prior to arrival. I highly doubt that there are any rooms available to change the reservation.
