I was just wondering if they are still selling walkway bricks outside MK or the inscribed monuments outside EPCOT?

if so how much do they cost?

Both programs are no longer running. The Walk around the World bricks were sold out in 2000. I believe they cost somewhere in the $250 range, but I am not positive. The Leave a Legacy program was suspended in 2007. The titles were about $50 at first, but since the program never proved to be popular they kept lowering the price.

And there is a ton of space left on leave a legacy. Too bad, I would have considered getting it done.

Hopefully they will move them at some point as well, you know, away from the main entrance

The 'inscribed monuments' at EPCOT are affectionatelly known to many as 'the tombstones'. Many people feel that they detract from the entrance of EPCOT and should be relocated so that area can have a more pleasing, and unobstructed, design for a park entrance.

The bricks outside the Magic Kingdom are nice and actually add to the park area.

We did pay for one Leave a Legacy at the kickoff for the millennium. Subsequent visits we always seemed to get free vouchers. Did that a couple of times then even lost interest in free.

We did buy a tile years ago, and wish we could get another as children #1 & #2 endlessly tease #3 because he is not on it....

The bricks were if I remember correctly around 100 bucks. I too wish that they still did these or even offered the opportunity to pay for another to have it changed or added to. Ours is at the TTC...so watch your step.

that's a shame that they both were discontinued. It seems like a good source of equity not to mention the pride you would get as a disney fan. I've noticed there certainly are plenty of space for more tiles and legacies??

We were disappointed to see they had stopped selling on our visit last year, our previous trip was 2003 & wanted to add another to include our 3yr old DS. I'd certainly be interested if they embarked on something similar in the future.

I think the leave a legacy is supposed to be around for 25yrs...be interesting to see where they end up if they last that long....

We did the LAL twice. Once with my parents, brother, and my kids. After my brother died at age 36, I bought one for my parents as a memorial for him. I would be devastated if the monoliths were ever taken away completely, but I agree that the current location is not the most ideal place.

The bricks weren't discontinued....they actually sold out. Leave a Legacy didn't prove nearly as popular as Disney had hoped, so they decided to cut the program. The titles that are there now have to be in place (somewhere in Epcot) until 2019, so I think they wanted to stop committing themselves to something that wasn't working for them.

The origional selling point was walk AROUND the world. It explained that there was to be a walkway all the way around Seven Seas Lagoon. In its current state it stops at the inlet where the EWP comes into the lagoon. I do understand and agree that its not practicle to have a bridge there. Also where is the walkway between the Contemporary and TTC.

There isn't a walkway between the Contempoary and the TTC, and it would be a VERY large undertaking to add one, even more-so than a canal bridge on the Grand Floridian side. The only way to do it would be to either build a very large and very tall bridge OVER the canal (which is impractical, because it'd have to allow enough clearance for the ferryboats to pass under it), or expand the water bridge underpass (which right now is strictly wide enough for the 2-lane roadway and no more).

As for the bricks selling out, that's partially true. The sections of the walkway that were designated as being for the bricks is full. But there are a number of other segments that they never even started to sell. For one, there's the entire walkway from the Polynesian, past the Wedding Pavilion, to the Grand Floridian. I just did a Gmaps Pedometer measurement, and that segment is about 1/3 of a mile, which is almost exactly the same as the current dead-end walkway from the MK monorail station to the far end near the canal.

One of the main reasons I've heard that the brick program was stopped was to try and increase business at Leave a Legacy, which wasn't exactly bringing the people in droves.

The EWP waterway needs to be open very infrequently. Build a drawbridge over it that is opened by a CM when the EWP needs to go in and out. Pretty easy and not all that expensive. And then they could continue the walk around the world from Contemporary around past MK to GF, Poly, and TTC.

It's a really shame that they cheaped out and stopped the walkway.

My brick is at the TTC and we still stop and see it every trip.

We have a tile on the Leave a Legacy at Epcot. Its the first thing we check out each year when we enter the park!!! I'd hate to see them moved.

What I don't understand is if the brick program was so successful, why didn't they expand it to the other parks? DHS and DAK both have big areas at the entrance that it could be done at.

Well I don't think they will be going anywhere fast. They were designed by one of Walt's ledgendary Imagineers: the late (and great!) John Hench. Things designed by him seem to last for quite a while.

A few things John Hench also did:
-lead developer of the hydraulic giant squid in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
-designing the iconic Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom and Tokyo Disneyland
-creating the original groundbreaking designs for Space Mountain
-Hench also was the "official portrait artist" of Mickey Mouse, painting the company's official portraits for Mickey's 25th, 50th, 60th, 70th, and 75th birthdays.

Around world showcase lagoon would offer enough room for quite a few bricks. Yes the water bridge would be a problem.
