This may have come up in previous discussions about this roadwork, but from the video it appears that they removed the pedestrian crossing signals to cross Buena Vista Drive at Victory Way.
There had been a crosswalk-to-nowhere complete with walk/don't-walk signals from the fire station to a small patch of sidewalk on the opposite side, surrounded by nothing but grass. It was a remnant left over from before Victory Way was built, when the back entrance out of CBR came out there (rather than farther down Victory Way as it does now). When Victory Way was added, the crosswalk was left behind. (Not that I bet it ever got much usage to begin with)
Guests from CBR could still use it, but it required walking across the internal CBR loop road, across a lawn and around a couple bushes to get out to the intersection. From there the crosswalk got you safely across Buena Vista, and a sidewalk set back from the roadway got you to Boardwalk.
Thanks for the update! Is it just me, or do road projects in WDW move at a much faster pace than anywhere else? I'm sure there are less government hurdles down there, or maybe it just seems faster since I'm not living through it on a daily basis.
When these improvements were first announced, there was also another small access road being built from the Studios to Victory Way. It was rumored that Disney might attempt to change the current traffic pattern, even possibly just for the buses. Is there any indication that any of this was part of the plan, or was this just about the increased traffic coming from AoA?
Theres a road widening project going on up here in a less inhabited area, not a city where theres is not much traffic aside from just town traffic. It was a matter of extending the 2 lane road outwards all of a few feet each way. Also as they did this the buried some replacement sewer pipes. The stretch of construction is about just over a 1/2 mile. With widening, laying some pipe, putting in curbs and paving we are on year 3 of the project and I think it still isnt done cause they meet up still in the morning.
We're going to be getting a casino when all is said and done and I guarantee you it will take like 10 years to construct this thing. We were just joking the other day about it saying they should get disney to build it, they would have it done in a year or 2.
How long did that take? It feels like it didn't take long at all! I wish that the road improvement projects near my house went that quickly and smoothly.
It started in early March 2012.
It seems that was for construction access. Although the trees were cleared, a road didn't happen. Perhaps something may happen there in the future.
