Trip Report UPDATE 11/2 "Anyone have change for $100?" It's all about the Bennys, baby! A Girls Cruise TR!

Hey everyone! Since we’ve been back from this trip for over 6 months now and I’ve taken another WDW trip and another cruise, I figured it was time to write this report! I’m not sure I have ever anticipated a trip to WDW more in my life than I anticipated this one! Was it because I was going to be going on my first Disney cruise (and first cruise EVER!!)? Is it because I would finally get to stay at my dream resort, the Polynesian? Was it because I was finally getting to meet all these awesome gals from WDWMagic in person for the first time? Well…. I’d like to think it was a combo of ALL of those things! :)

When I first read about the girls cruise, it was October 2011, almost a full 2 years before the cruise was planned. I did some creeping on the thread before I actually even thought about joining in. I was still sort of “new” to the boards and wasn’t sure I would “fit in” so to speak. The more I read about it, the more fun it sounded. I ran the idea past my mother and my sister to see if they would like to go and sure enough, they were in! We officially booked the first of January! We planned on staying 1 night pre-cruise and 3 nights post cruise so our trip would be Saturday Sept 7-Sunday Sept 15. We rented points for Bay Lake Tower after the cruise and had originally booked Wilderness Lodge for before the cruise. My sister and I decided to switch it up and change WL to the Polynesian because A – It’s my dream resort and B – We wanted to celebrate my Mom’s retirement. So we changed it without her knowing. We were originally going to hide the DME tags from her and tell her on DME since we knew that WL, Contemp, the Poly and GF all shared the same DME. We decided to tell her earlier though at her retirement party. She offered to pay us for her portion but we said no, it was our treat!

Anywho, though the cruise was still over a year and a half away when we booked, the time flew by. Over the course of that year and a half, we had many group chats and chatted in the cruise thread. As the cruise crept closer, I knew that I absolutely could not wait to meet this wonderful group of ladies! I knew it would be the BEST time! And was it ever!!

Saturday Sept 7, 2013 – It’s time! It’s time!!!

My alarm went off bright and early Saturday morning at 2:30am. I was already packed and ready to go so Mom picked us up at 3:30am and we were off! We were flying out of Manchester NH on Southwest. Even though Portland’s airport is literally a mile from our house, Manchester had a non-stop flight, with better flight times and was cheaper. So we made the hour and 20 minutes trek to NH. No biggie!

We arrive at MHT at 5am. We hauled our luggage out of the car (all 10 bags! Eek!!) and waited for the shuttle to the main terminal. The bus driver pulled up and opened the door. As we struggled to get our bags onto the bus, the driver just sat there. No offer to help us, nothing. I have flown out of MHT less than a year earlier and the driver then was super helpful. But not this guy!! Mom got in the bus and we handed all our bags up to her. It took us a few minutes to get everything on and all Mr. Bus Driver did was sit there. This trip was NOT off to a good start! That all changed though after we sat down and “Dude Looks Like a Lady” came on the radio. I immediately thought of Rock N Roller Coaster and the fun week that lay ahead of us and pushed Mr. Bus Driver to the back of my head. I immediately texted @plaz10 and told her. I knew she was awake and either at the airport or on her way and would totally understand my excitement for hearing this song! When we reached the terminal, we schlepped all our bags off and bid Mr. Bus Driver a snarky farewell.

We went into the terminal and the security line was pretty much non-existent. We grabbed some Dunks and waited for boarding.

The flight was uneventful and we landed 20 minutes early! Wooooo!! We arrived at DME, hopped on the bus and headed to WDW at 10:30 on the dot!

Typical DME selfie!!

We're heeeeereeeeee!!

We made a stop at WL first and a part of my heart was sad because we weren’t staying there. As we stopped at the Contemporary, I wondered if we should have just stuck with WL since we knew we liked it. What if we hated the Poly? What if Mom hated it? We knew she loved WL, maybe we shouldn’t have changed it! My mind was busy with these thoughts as we made our way from the Contemp to the Poly, but as we made that right turn, pulled up to the gate and I saw the sign reading Polynesian Resort, all my worries went away. I KNEW we had made the right choice!

We got off the bus and were greeted by the amazing waterfalls and lush greenery of the Poly’s entrance. A CM put lei’s on us and said “welcome home!”. Not going to lie, I teared up just a bit! Mom and Ashley both looked at me waiting for the waterworks but thankfully I had my sunglasses on (It’s kind of a running joke with us that I cry over everything so they always look to see if I’m crying over the smallest little thing! Meanies!!! Haha)

We were led into the lobby where we checked in. The CM was looking for our Magic Bands but I told him we got them already. We had wanted to request Tahiti but it was closed as the Poly was starting to begin it’s refurb! We thought we weren’t going to be able to swim in the volcano pool, but the closure of that was a couple days after we left, so we lucked out! We request Tuvalu instead and were given our request. When we had originally booked, we wanted a standard garden view but when I called, it wasn’t showing up anymore (it was online though) the CM told us she could give us a lagoon view though for just $14 more. Well, you don’t have to twist my arm for that! SOLD! And for only $14 more than a garden view.

We took the long way to Tuvalu so we could take in the grounds of the resort. So beautiful.

We were on the ground floor in Tuvalu room 1413. Mom and Ashley let me open the door and be the first one into the room. As I pushed open the door and walked in, taking in the newly refurbished beautiful room, I could feel the tears again. This time, I didn’t care. I burst into tears and said “I can’t believe we are actually staying here!” Some of you might think I am a little weird, crying because of a resort.. Even though it was only for one night, we were staying at the Polynesian! From my first visit in 2001, when I was just 18 and we saw the luau and I first fell in love with the resort, to the many subsequent trips to Kona Café and Ohana trip after trip, I hoped every time that we would someday be able to stay there! That someday we would be able to just walk back to our room after leaving the Grand Ceremonial House instead of going back to another room at another resort. The Polynesian is more than just a resort to me. It is paradise. It was a place I had my heart set on staying for so many years. A place that I would longingly look at from the monorail as we glided past on the Express beam. I would look down at people wandering the grounds, wondering which building they were staying in and thinking how lucky they were. And now we were the lucky ones! FINALLY!

I took some pictures of the room. I LOVED the size of it!

And I loved the bathroom. The only thing I didn’t like, and I believe @fractal mentioned this in his TR too, that the hook for the towel was on the other side of the wall, next to the toilet. Made it a little hard to reach the towel! Also I wasn’t a fan of the sink IN the bathroom, probably since we’re so used to the sink being outside the bathroom but it was only for one night so it wasn’t really an issue.

The closets were cool and we loved having the couch in the room. Ashley was the tough luck loser who had the couch that night while Mom and I each had the bed. Ahhhhh, lucky us! (I wouldn’t be laughing later on in the trip when I was climbing up and down from the pull down bed on the cruise though…. Meh.)

I had yet to look out at the view, so I pulled the curtains back and actually gasped when I saw the view. Slightly to the left was the wedding pavilion and the Grand Floridian. To the right was the boat dock and the Contemporary and straight ahead was Cinderella Castle. We couldn’t see TOO much of it but had Wishes been scheduled for that night, it would have been perfect. Unfortunately, it was Night of Joy and there were no fireworks. Booooo!! We had other plans anyway but had we not, it would have been awesome to watch Wishes from our patio! (Spoiler alert, we ended up NOT having plans later that night so it was very much a bummer that Wishes wasn’t happening!)

We were starving at that point and didn’t have plans until later that afternoon, so we changed into our swimsuits and headed to the GCH. It was time to try Captain Cook’s!!

There were a couple things I wanted to try but most importantly, I wanted to try the Poly chip! Jess ( @plaz10 ) and I had been discussing these beauties for a bit before the cruise. She was staying at Bay Lake Tower with Siobhan ( @Tiggerish ) that night but we made plans to meet up a bit later. I opted for the Aloha Pork Sandwich which came with Asian slaw on top and the Poly chips!

Ashley got the chicken sandwich and fries and I can’t remember what Mom got. The pork sandwich was delish!! And the Poly chips… Oh Mylanta! Were those delicious! I’m eating some Wasabi almonds right now but boy do I wish I were eating those chips instead! The chips were the first of MANY ridiculously good foods I was going to try over the course of the trip! Ashley like her chicken sandwich and Mom liked… whatever it was that she got!! Lol

Hey there buddy! The more that I read these dang 4 night Bahamas Cruise reports the more I just want to go for the 7 night Caribbean!! I can seriously just feel how painfully quick they go by, it makes me sad about going on my own like I can feel it ending already!! Psycho! I absolutely love you and your sister because I've got the absolute same thing going on with mine, nothing beats it. And your little Benny's story would totally go down with us too and I'd call her a weirdo about it. All good stuff.

Now BLT…I've never seen a studio room really besides your pic; we've only stayed in the 2BR villas there. That's our DVC home resort. My love for it is truly all about the walk to MK and I LoVE the Bay Lake view. I will forever love the buzz and magic energy that you feel over in the Contemporary and the rooms in the Contemporary are way better than the studios in BLT. My brother stayed in one a few trips ago that I got to see. Note that I've won on our last 3 trips booked on choosing other resorts!

And Dude, when/what/where is your April trip…what the what? Out of FL I hope during my trip dates so that we can cross paths somehow. Or we'll just meet at a country show up here soon. :joyfull:

Yeah the 4 night went by super fast! I think it was a good first cruise for us cause if we hated it, then it was over in 4 days! If we did a 7 night first and hated it, oh man, I think I might have gone overboard! haha

The walk to MK was awesome from BLT. I hope we just got unlucky and got the worst room there. And yeah, definitely super jealous of your room at GF! That was amazing! The only other DVC resorts we stayed at were VWL and BWV. Loved BWV! And I love WL but our room was the last one down on the hall at the villas so that was kinda crappy but other than that, VWL were awesome, too.

We're not taking our April cruise now :( And it was out of Miami anyway and not Port Canaveral. We changed it so we're crusing in September with some friends.

Yes a country show needs to happen! So we can drink from mason jars and sing and dance! :D

that pizza looks definitively delicious!

It was oh so yummy! I had pizza last night and it was nowhere close to this!! :)

your pictures are fantastic, and the foood mmm

Thank you! One of my favorite things about WDW vacations is the food. And on the cruise it was all free!! Can't beat that!! ;)

Yeah, I will stick with the 4 night cruise for the same reason, to test the waters so to speak.

I've stayed at every DVC resort now except for AKL which I booked for 4 nights in April! Sweetness!! I LOVE BWV, definitely a favorite. I love that location.

And I ain't worried, we'll get our country on soon for sure! Warning you ahead of time that you might not want to ever go to a concert with anyone else again, I'm really good at it. :p Can't wait!!

We made it to the International Gateway and we saw these two guys out with no line. Awwwwww, we'll go say hi!!

We started to head for the exit. But not without stopping for a couple pics on the way.

See ya next trip, Spaceship Earth, you gorgeous sphere, you.

We had a little time still before Wishes which I was going to photograph from the sky bridge between BLT and CR. So we decided to make a pit stop at our favorite resort to date that we have stayed at... Wilderness Lodge! Yes, even after staying at the Poly, WL still takes the top spot. I think the cost mostly dictates WL's first place finish.

We walked down my favorite hallway. I mentioned it during the cruise section. I just love this hallway.

We stopped into Roaring Fork to get me a Magic Cookie Bar. This rivals the red velvet cheesecake cupcake at Starring Rolls for my favorite Disney treat! So yummy! No picture though. Don't know why I din't take one. That's so unlike me!

We headed outside to catch the boat. It was a quick stop at WL. I didn't have my tripod with me but I found a flat surface and tried to take some long exposures. Not my best work, but they're pretty.

The boat came quickly and we made it back to CR and out onto the sky bridge with a few minutes to spare. There were probably a dozen people on the bridge waiting for Wishes. I was looking forward to seeing it from this perspective.

Before I pulled up this photo to edit it, I though the firework burst over Space was the moon. But then it made no sense because the moon wasn't in any other photos. I finally realized it was a firework burst that I didn't quite capture.

We headed down to the room and called it a night. We had another fun filled Disney day ahead of us on Friday :)

Friday September 13

We woke up early Friday morning and remembered it was Friday the 13th! Ooohhhhh, spooky! We got ready and headed out to the monorail. This was my favorite part about staying at BLT... the monorail was right there :)

Why, hello again, Poly! So nice to see you on this beautiful morning :)

We headed in because we had a breakfast ADR at the one, the only.....

From what I remember, we were seated fairly quickly. Look, it's empty!

'Ohana breakfast gets bad reviews sometimes, but I think as far as food goes, it's my favorite character meal on property! I mean, look at this bread.... soooo good!

And fresh fruit :)

And OF COURSE... POG juice!!!

Our "cousin" brought us over a platter of food to start. My mouth is watering just looking at those Mickey waffles... and the eggs... and the bacon and sausage.... aaaaand the breakfast potatoes! Heck, I love everything in this photo!!

As you can see by my plate, I took a good heaping spoonful of everything!

A few minutes later, the characters started making their rounds! Hi, Lilo!

Stitch told us to do the hang lose sign but I went with the rockstar sign and put my index finger up instead of my thumb. FAIL!

Breakfast was delicious, like always. I stopped to take some pictures of my favorite thing about the Poly... the gorgeous waterfall in the lobby. At this time, the talk had started about changing the lobby so I wanted to get a couple pics before it was gone forever :(

As much as I wanted to linger and just hang around the waterfall all day, we had places to be! We headed outside to catch a monorail!

Our destination for the day! We knew the park would be closing at 7pm for the Halloween party which was fine with us. We wanted to see how the crowds would be and figured most people without park hoppers would be at the Studios so they could go to the villains event that night. We're not all about the villains and were going to the Halloween party instead. And I am pleased to report crowds during the day and at night were pretty much non-existant!

A foggy castle... kind of eerie, which is perfect since it was Friday the 13th!

We headed back towards Fantasyland....

We stopped and picked up FP for this beauty...

New (at the time) Tangled bathrooms!

We headed over to New Fantasyland..

This is one of my favorite pics from the trip.... NO ONE was there!

We decided to take a little ride under the sea with Ariel and her friends.

Afterwards, we decided to pop in and say hello to her in fin form! I really don't like the lighting in the grotto!

Caught up again! I think I re-read some too. I still think it’s hilarious that you saw all of us coming back to the ship!

I love your hallway comparison. I think it’s perfect.

The See You Real Soon menu is absolutely the saddest menu ever.

I think Ashley has a point! Benny’s should never be lonely!

Your Test Track picture is epic.

I like the fireworks perspective! :)

Ahhh, the hallways... love them!

Yes, sad manu! See ya real soon might actually be one of the saddest phrases I've ever heard. That, "goodbye" and "Adam Levine is engaged" are all pretty sad :(

Benny's ALWAYS need friends! You can never have 1 Benny. You must always have 2! Then when you spend one, you have to go get another one to replace it!

Poor Ashley didn't know what I was doing on Test Track when I grabbed her. The people behind us loved it though when they saw our pic on the monitor afterwards.

Gorgeous pics from the skybridge! I think that perspective is much better than seeing Wishes from Top of the World or Cali Grill.

Lovely photos from 'Ohana also! You all look so pretty in your leis. :)

After meeting Ariel, we headed over to Gaston's Tavern for a snack.

Looking at the statue of Gaston from this angle.... hehe

We got a chocolate croissant and a LeFou's Brew. I had tried the LeFou's Brew before and it's ok. Not something I would get every trip, but it was cold and it was starting to get hot so it was a nice refreshing drink.

We headed over to cash in on our PPF FP next. LOVED still being able to get paper FP along with our FP+ choices :)

We headed into Liberty Square and saw Tiana was just about to come out. She had no line and we had never met her before sooooo why not?! We discussed cooking with her and when we said we were from Maine she asked if we ever made Lobster Bisque. A smart girl, that Tiana!

Apparently, judging by the signs I took pics of, we headed towards Frontierland!

Which way should we go?!?

Let's head towards Adventureland and take a spin with some pirates!

haha yes, we did see you at the Land! I remembered that after I wrote that part.

3 nights is definitely better than nothing! I don't have interest in spending a full week at WDW anytime soon, but at least we will get to go to MK for the Christmas party after the cruise :)

After our pirate adventure, we decided to stop and see some munks!

It was FP+ time for us so we headed to BTMRR!

After that we decided to stop for some lunch. We considered Cosmic Rays and Pecos Bill's (2 places we dine at frequently while we're there) but decided on Columbia Harbour House. This was new for us!! I had the hummus and broccoli slaw sandwich and it was sooooo good!! I would get it again in a heartbeat.

We decided to hear back to the resort for a little R&R by the pool.

See you in a few hours, MK!!

We decided to take the monorail instead of walking back to BLT. We're not that lazy, it was just really hot out.

Here comes our ride!!

Love this view from the skybridge!

We decided to head down to the pool for awhile. It was nice and relaxing. I went down the slide a few times.

We got ready and then headed back to MK.

Since the afternoon parade would be ending soon and Ashley had never seen it before, we decided to watch it. We got a spot right in town square. It was HOT!!

I'm late, I'm late.. For a very important date!!

After saying goodbye to CADCT we decided to head into Town Square and meet the big cheese himself! This time, he talked! He had some card tricks for us... Ashley picked a card and he would try to guess it! And wouldn't you know it, he was right!

Then it was my turn!

That Mickey is so smart!! But wait a second.. turns out ALL the cards were Minnie! lol

We headed down Main Street and hit up Space Mountain and Buzz.
